wiring question - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

4 wires come out of this harness under the cowl. Purple and Yellow #1 were clearly marked "r" and "S" for the solenoid. Green and yellow #2 were not labeled and have different ends on them. Green has a heat wrap on it. Where do these go?

Green sounds like the temp sensor in the head. Yellow suggests the wire from the not S terminal on the solenoid to the coil. Since there's an HEI in the pic, the yellow isn't used.
There's a wiring diagram on this site if you want to look a little.

I put the HEI in. I was going to come straight off the ignition switch to power it. That means I can just abandon this yellow wire then?

You don’t need the yellow wire with the hei. Tape it up or follow it back to the harness and cut it is what I would do.

Make sure to take the yellow wire off the "R" terminal on the starter solenoid, just to make certain that something crazy doesn't happen later.

I run all of my HEI's off of the "IGN UNFUSED" terminal on the fuse block.

Yup. I learned that fix right here on this board. I had done it with a solenoid before that.
