700r4 question

I found a 700r4 in a 87 s10 with a 4.3. It has a k case. Is this the same trans as a v-8 uses.

Yes, except the ears of the bellhousing area will be cut off.

I think the 4.3 is the same case as the v8 version, the 2.8 will have the funny shaped bell housing. Actually I bet its the same trans as the v8 version. I wouldn't be afraid of it if your are going to go through it.
