Question Measurment between frame members.

Hey All,

In looking for a new radiator for my 1964 GMC stepside, we couldn't find an OEM radiator to fit. The indicated radiator for the 64 was too wide.

I found that the distance between the main frame members of my truck were way smaller then a regular 1964.

I am suspisious that the body of my truck might be mounted on an earlier, or later, year frame. Would you please measure the distance between your main frame on any trucks between 1960 thru 1965 for me?

I measured in front of the crankshaft pulley on my GMC from inside frame edge to inside frame edge.

Thank you.

Bill

I need to know, as I had planned on installing a 350ci engine/350 Turbo tranny into my PU this winter. BUT, if the frame isn'rtcorrect, I don't want to got there at all! At the moment the PU has a 230ci Inline.

I have a 64 chevy 1/2 ton with v8, measurement was @23 inches at crank pulley. I am not sure but I think the GMC and Chevy used diff core supports...I used a Modine 347(fits a 67 buick skylark 400cu with A/C radiator, 4 core rad that fits just right with new mounts. I found a modine catalog online with every spec(not by year and model) When you said it didn't fit what was the problem, too wide??

My 63 with V8 measured 23 & 1/2" at the crank pulley, but the frame edge looked like it was turned up. It measured 23 1/4" on the bottom of the front crossmember(directly below the factory radiator) Hope this helps!

There are differences in frame width on Chevys from 60-66. I know this from taking the bed off of a 62 and putting it on a 66.
I also found out that the bumper mounts and the bumper from an earlier 60's model wont fit on a 66 for the same reason. I cant remember the exact width difference but i think it was approximately 6-8 inches difference between the two.

I'll have to check with the radiator guy here about part #. The cost was $137.00 plus about 4 bucks for a cap and overflow tube. I had to take my old radiator mounts, bend them into a 'U' shape, reverse them, drill mounting holes that matched the new radiator. I had no problems, exdfept I haven't been on here long enough to figure out posting a photo. Help?

the differences in these years 1960-62 and 1963-66 are the rear frame section is wider on the 63-66 the 60-62 has a boxed front frame section and no coil springs. the front bumpers do not interchange because the mounts are different but the frames are the same width. i hope i helped
