Manual to 4l60e - what about shifters?
I am swapping in a 5.3/4l60e over the next few weeks. It is going in my 66 c10 long bed. It currently has a 4 on the floor. I would like to keep the shifter on the floor. I see a few shifters for sale on Summit, I would like to keep a classic look. I saw pics of a shifter from the donor but didn't care for the look. Can anyone point me to good ideas/post pics/give me some guidance?
Also I am not clear on how to route the linkage. Can someone talk me through that portion? Thanks in advance |

Re: Manual to 4l60e - what about shifters?
I'm sure there are differences between my truck (1980 C10) and yours, but I started with a sick cylinder and four speed and did the 5.3L/4L60e swap. I used a Locar Nostalgia shifter and was able to utilize the original shifter floor opening, as well as the shifter boot. The only draw-back to this is, prior to shifter installation, I had put my ALDL inside the ashtray, hiding it from view. After installing the shifter, I couldn't open the ashtray with the shifter in Park (neutral is okay).

I assume you just do without a gear indicator. Is that right?

Re: Manual to 4l60e - what about shifters?
Thanks. The shifter "feels" like a regular console type shifter, and, no I don't have an indicator, although I believe Lokar makes one. My after market harness didn't have provision for the factory PRNDL/neutral safety switch on the transmission, but the shifter does have a park/neutral safety switch that I wired into my clutch switch circuit (I don't know if your truck has that feature). Therefore you can't start the vehicle in a drive gear.
