I never thought I'g get one for my Truck ..

One night last week when i was at work an ad popped up in a Facebook Group where someone had won a totally rebuilt with new torque converter and TV cable 700R4 trans and wanted to sell it. Turns out I knew the seller and the 700R had been rebuilt at the local shop where I've taking my vehicles for trans work since the 70's. I went and talked with the tech that rebuilt and it has mild shift kit and the TConverter is stock. I pondered a bit and called the seller and we made a deal. I never thought I'd ever get a 4 speed trans in my truck. This should work especially good with the 3:73's 's in the Highlander.
Now to save up the 1000.00 ( hopefully ) or so to get it installed.

Check with your trans shop about setting up the shift patterns.I've been told its so much easier to get the one with the computer..But check with your local shop about how to make that trans shift at the right time. The TV cable only dose part of it.Something most guys don't tell you.Is the TV cable only works the 3 gears the Over drive is done with vacuum and shifting points set up By the trans installer. Its costing what ever you payed for the trans think another 1200.00 for the guy setting it up and getting your drive shaft cut down and re-bounced.Don't take my word for it ask your Tranny guy.Me i'm buy the 4L80E with the TCI wire harness and brain that is a bullet proof trans you can drag race with it pull with it leave it in over drive all the time cost me 1600.00 to buy it buy the harness and i don't have to shorten the drive shaft cus most 3'4 ton trucks from 1969-72 had a th400 same drive shaft maybe different yoke. But same all the way around

Congratulations you’ll love overdrive my 70 has a 700r4 and does great down the freeway even with 27in tires. But I didn’t want anything crazy just a cool cruiser I could actually drive.

THat is exactly what I'm after. My plan is to take the truck on the Hot Rod Power Tour in the next couple of yesrs so the 4 speed wil be great for all that Highway diving.

The hardest part should be shortening the drive shaft. You will need a little wiring for the lock up and maybe some work on the cooler lines. That's a pretty easy swap. You should grab a couple buddies and some beer and pop it in yourself. The shaft will be a pain in the wallet that can't be avoided. We've had good luck here with Bridge City Driveline. I'd give them a try.

I'll be letting Hub Automatic do the install. That way its their rebuild and it'll be their install so if I have any problems after the install I can bring to them cause they did everything.

Re: I never thought I'g get one for my Truck ..

Just had a 700r4 put in. My tranny went out 1200 miles from home. I had a turbo 350. Had to cut down the driveshaft. I still need the proper TV cable bracket with the correct geometry for my ''edelbrock'' carburetor. I'm not getting a full accelerator pedal.
Mine locks up in 4th at around 30-35 mph.
Bowtie overdrives sells all the needed parts for around 300 bucks. You can set your tq lock up at whatever speed.

Re: I never thought I'g get one for my Truck ..

I just finished the same thing. Was at work and saw a craigslist add for a 2004R trans. Although not as strong as a 700, it was a direct replacement for my TH350. I knew it was a gamble, but the cost was less than most places were charging for the core. The trans was suppose to have been rebuilt just prior to it being removed from the donor car. I think it sat for a few years and after installing worked great until the front pump thrust washer broke. Trans shop verified it had been rebuilt when they went thru it for me.

Very happy with being able to cruise on the freeway at 65 to 70 turning around 2K with 4.11 gears.

Get it installed, and enjoy.
