options for NON oem tow hooks?????
I have a 71 GMC longhorn, I would like to get a set of tow hook for the front but I am not willing to pay what seems to be the price of the one up on the board or OEM hooks. Can you tell me what if any reasonable option one might have for after market.
this is an all stock truck fyi, I plan is to really only use them for pulling it onto the tlr. and god forbid what they where intended for... |

Re: options for NON oem tow hooks?????
I haven't been able to get pics of mine but I can tell you what I have and the basics of attaching them. Here's a pic similar to what I'm using:
I have two in the front and one under the rear step bumper. The front hooks are bolted under the frame rails, just behind the front bumper. I fabbed spacers (about 3/16" thick iirc) to clear the front bumper. The hooks are cheap and have a 10,000# rating. I have used them for many years, mostly pulling logs out for firewood. They have taken all the punishment my K20 can dish out in 4Low without a hint of damage.

I used '73 and up hooks on my Blazer. They look similar to the factory only WAY cheaper.

Re: options for NON oem tow hooks?????
Those hooks are available at lots of places, do a Google search for tow hooks. Walmart has Curt hooks (pictured) for less than $10 and Harbor Freight has a different brand even cheaper. All are rated at 10,000# so are plenty strong, you won't break 'em. I found other places selling pretty much the same hooks but for more money. Oh, you can get 'em in chrome too if you like.
