66 with SB2

I have a question about a 66 with a SB2 390 with T400, dyno 685 hp with 590 lbs. of torque. When i put in drive and give it gas everything is fine , as soon as I punch it and let off the gas it pops into neutral. I have checked motor /trans mounts , everything looks good. Could it be a result of engine torque? Help is much appreciated.

Re: 66 with SB2

This question might be more apt to get a response if moved to the engine and drivetrain section.

Does your truck have mechanical shift linkage? When it shifts into neutral, can you simply shift it by hand back into drive?
