Original Overdrive Help!
Hello all. I'm finally at a point where I can spend a few hours a day working on my 65 c10. I have never operated the overdrive on this truck.
Question: Should I do any maintenance to the transmission before trying to engage the overdrive? I know there are switches on the carburetor. How would I check these out? Next Question: How in the name of Zeus' butt hole do I operate this overdrive? Thanks. |

Re: Original Overdrive Help!
Not sure of any "factory" overdrives from that era, so it was possibly an aftermarket deal. Or maybe even a dealer add on. Post up some pics will make it easier to identify.

Re: Original Overdrive Help!
There should be a cable to pull under the dash. After you pull the cable and over 55 MPH I believe the O/D will kick in if the servo's are connected. I put an O/D unit in my 65 and hooked up a switch to override the Servo switch. I just do it manually. So I have to pull the cable and flip the switch. The trans I used was from 1957 according to the #'s on the case.
This is what an O/D unit looks like. I had 3. I sold one and put on in my truck and this one is sitting in my garage. It needs a full rebuild.

Re: Original Overdrive Help!
Have a look on this website. They have the original manuals posted on 3speed overdrive transmissions.
Hope this helps. Regards Steve http://devestechnet.com/Home |
