Question about the '68 CST model(s)

I'm not sure if this question can be answered or not. I'm attempting to see if my truck might be a CST model. By the time I purchased it, it appears one door had been replaced (different wing window trim - black and a diff regulator, instead of chrome on the other door) - no door CST emblems. The truck had been completely repainted - SPID absent, later year Blazer bucket seats installed. The only clues are the original chrome bumper on front, trim on hood front edge, as well as the trim (eyebrows) down the sides of the front fenders by the headlights. Original side trim all removed and holes welded up. No sign that there was any trim on the tailgate or tail lights. I'm guessing any of these options might have been available on it regardless of CST trim, but who knows? Thanks for any input. Ned

The chrome hood and side trim was independent of the CST option in '68. If you have windshield trim, it's possible it was a Custom or CST.

The only thing I can think of that a factory CST had that other trim levels did not have is chrome trim on the pedals. Unfortunately this could have been easily added later. If it had the original bench seat, one could tell if it was a CST also.

I don't think there is a real conclusive answer. Post some pictures. Perhaps something would jump out and shed some light.

PS, Does it have the original carpet? This might give a clue but I think carpet was available outside of the CST option.

Carpet, door panels? Stainless clutch/brake pedal trim. Window trim.

As mentioned the side trim was optional, my 68 CST/Custom Camper has no side trim. On the door that may be original, there is a possibility you could pull the door panel and look inside to see if the holes for the CST emblem are there or were filled in. Without the SPID, there is no guarantee.

Don't know if it is a CST thing only but the knobs on mine all have the stainless centers. Mine also has the carpeted gas tank cover and there are a series of holes drilled along the lower edge of the metal panel below the rear window. Those would have to still be there on yours.....

For some of the things mentioned and look inside the doors. I bought it with carpet but no way of knowing if it was original. I had the dash knobs as mentioned. I added the custom trimmed pedal pads myself.

If someone cut the old carpet out, there may be a remnant under the door opening trim...

CST or custom could have those knobs. The carpeted gas tank would be for a bucket seat truck which was an option on a 68 cst.
