1986 Turn signal issue

Hey Guys ! I have a 1986 Chevy Scottsdale 1/2 ton 4X4 long bed truck with a automatic transmission.
Here is what I am experiencing.
With the key switch in the on position
My right turn signal the lights flash as they should.
Now when I turn on the left turn signal ,only my rear light comes on but does not flash and none of the front lights come on nor do they flash.
If I switch the 4 way flashers on , No light flash at all.
If I remove the flasher relay under the dash, then my left rear turn signal light flashes like it is supposed to but still no lights in the left front .
I checked all the bulbs in the left front all are ok. I checked wire at the fuse panel engine side and no power at all light blue wire. I then went under the dash and checked that light blue wire , no power. This goes up to the steering column to the turn signal switch . I can not believe that the switch is the culprit due to the fact that the rear left light works properly and nothing on the front.
Can you electrical gurus give me some pointers .
Vic

Re: 1986 Turn signal issue

I went thru this same thing with my s10 a yr ago, was even the same side as yours. Was the gauge pod ground open. Only took a whole day to find it! I spliced into it & grounded to a steering column bolt & every thing went to work.

Re: 1986 Turn signal issue

andyh1956 Thank you for the tip. That does sound reasonable. I will look into the grounding of the dash panel tomarrow. That would be great if that is it.
Thanks

Re: 1986 Turn signal issue

Found that my issue was in the turn signal switch in the steering column. The contacts were worn and not making good contact to make the left front turn signal flash. Will be installing a new switch and on the forum my status.

Re: 1986 Turn signal issue

Replaced the turn signal switch with a AC Delco unit and that resolved my turn signal issues. all is good now.
