Power steering gear box difference

I got my replacement ps gear box today and started pulling stuff apart. I see that the old pump has a sort of nipple on the end of the shaft that attaches to the steering column but the new one doesn’t. Do I need to be concerned with this difference?

Re: Power steering gear box difference

The shaft that is protruding is a torsion rod. It has a pin securing it to the input shaft and another at the other end where it contact the worm gear. The length and diameter have bearing on how much power assist the box will use.

Re: Power steering gear box difference

Can I install the new pump just as it is? Should I try and pull anything out of the old pump before I bring it back for the core charge?
