Regarding a 56 Suburban

I am trying to see if anyone knows a source for a fuel tank sending unit with pick up tube for a 1956 Suburban? This has a right side frame mount tank that is about 12 inches tall. So it needs to be fairly short.

Not sure if this is posted in the right spot. Any help is appreciated.

Re: Regarding a 56 Suburban

This would be the correct place. I know nothing of the old Suburban vs truck. But my first guess would be (given the time) they used the same pick up as the trucks just oriented a little different. Do you have any pictures of the old parts or are you starting from scratch?

Im sure someone experience will dive in with a better answer.

I believe my original was pitched. The behind the seat units are too long or require a deeper puddle of gas. I will see if I can post a pic with dimensions if I still have the original.

Re: Regarding a 56 Suburban

It is possible to modify a behind the seat unit by shortening the pickup tube and the float arm.

Does it have to be oem? Will this work - they come in different lengths:

Re: Regarding a 56 Suburban

Thanks everybody. Looks like I can modify one from a sedan of that vintage. It starts out fairly short and I could squeeze my tubing bender to get the pick up and sending unit to sit at tha right spot and angle.

Re: Regarding a 56 Suburban

I know this is an old post but the panel trucks and suburbans used the same sender only. I found Jim Carter does have them but the batch they have is the wrong ohm reading (2-120). I just sent mine to get rebuilt at Williamson instruments.
