Dually 14 bolt

Did GM/Chevy ever make a second generation corp 14 DISC brake dually or am I just not able to find any other than the new AAM ones?

I don't know enough about the newer trucks, but the 14 bolt was not in actually duallys as they had Dana 70 HD up through the square bodies. The 14 bolt dual wheel was in the cab and chassis trucks and to my knowledge no disc brakes until after AAM became it's own company.

There is corp 14 / 10.5 ring gear dually axles (second gen)however all I ever find are ones with drum brakes, I find dana 70 HDs all over with both and dana 80s with both.


The newer 14 bolts are not the corp 14 ,they are AAM's no 3rd bearing pinion support and they are heavy heavy and have problems. I may just grab a dana 80 with disc.

The Dually is a wider wheelbase and it came with a bed. Those trucks with a bed are Duallies and had a Dana 70 HD in the square bodies. The narrower 14 bolt dual wheel axle came in cab and chassis trucks. They were delivered without a bed. That is not a dually. Make sense? Yes, they are both dual wheel trucks but they are not the same thing.

But back to your original question, I don't think there was ever a disc brake dual wheel old style Corporate 14 bolt configuration from the General.

I'm sure you know there are lots of disc conversions but they usually eliminate the parking brake and that's a no-no for me.

The confusion here comes from where the term 'dually' comes from. Yeah, today it seems everyone is calling and dual rear wheel truck a 'dually'. The whole thing started with GM introducing the new dual rear wheel pickups as 'Big Dooleys', as in the song "hang down your head Tom Dooley"... a folk hero outlaw. Somehow from hear-say and misinformation the term has been bastardized into being 'dually' and meaning any truck with DRW.

Way back before disc brakes were put on the rear of anything but maybe a Porche or Ferrari I would see them under Step Vans with DRW (those aren't 'duallys too are they?). This was in the late '80s-early '90s. I think they were the 5 & 10 bolt pattern, so larger than 14-bolt I believe. What rear came in the '92+ 3500HDs? I think it was that rear, and those have rear disc. Actually, the rear drum brakes off a 14-bolt DRW are awesome brakes...all the brake you could ever need. True, heavy for sure. But they will give all the brake you could ever need and are plentiful/cheap

Doesn't matter now I scored a Dana 80 8 lug 6.5 with 4.10 gears and disc brakes. It came with literally everything and I haven't a clue what the hell it came out of. Paid 350$ for it.

It's in perfect shape except that it's dirty.

That’s not completely true. The 11.5” gear aam 14 doesn’t the pinion support but the 10.5” gear aam does. I’ve got two of the aam disk brake 10.5s I’m holding on to for future swaps, both have the pinion support.

Ah so AAM made the old 14 bolts as well, learn something new all the time. I know the 10.5's had pinion support and the new one didn't.

Anyhow now I have to swap studs in this Dana 80 the threads are too coarse (1.5) IIRC need some ARP fine thread FTW.

Yep the 11.5 at least in the 99-06 trucks was only behind the Allison whether it be the duramax or the 8.1. All the other hd trucks had the regular old 10.5. My 18 Sierra has the 10.5.
