i believe there were only 2 options:
235 straight 6. newly introduced 283 v8. not sure if they still offered the 265 v8 for 58,59.

GMC The right information? OK !
I believe our friend here deserves the right information if we know it or can find it for him/her. Don't you all agree? After all we are here to help one another and I personally have been helped a lot by being a member of this discussion board.
Here is a site for the GMC "Truck Nuts" like me! Although I have a Hienz 57 of a truck (1/2 GMC and Half Chevy) Ha Ha! Even my MI license plate reads "57 HEINZ" So let's see if the "right" info can be handed off to our latest TN (truck nut) running back OK? http://www.1955gmc.com/index.html Quoted from this site: "GMC used different running gear than the Chevy trucks and the interiors were different. The 6 cyl motors were GMC and the V8 motors were Pontiac design Pontiac has always had a relationship with GMC, and in 1955 the new Pontiac V8 motor was shared with them. A 288 cubic inch motor was used in the trucks and 1955 is the start a long run with this motor for Pontiac. (Also GMC) truck(s) came from the factory with a 288 coupled to a four speed Hydra-Matic transmission"(or manual three speeds) Words in parens are added and are mine...rico.
