Inline 6 250
Hi,
I'm looking for a square body truck 2wd, and find a few with the inline 6. I'm not looking for a race car, but would like to know if this motor has enough power to be a daily driver? Do they have enough to maintain reasonable speed on the interstate? Any info you can provide is appreciated.

Re: Inline 6 250
Best bet would be to test drive one, and decide if it'll work for you.
Funny related story, my parents used an 84 C10 decades ago to tow a goose neck horse trailer, with a 250! Mom said it was too slow going up hills so Dad put in a rebuilt 350 from a 69 Impala. |

It will go fast enough (eventually) the bury the speedometer past 85, so I don't know if that is reasonable enough for you. |

Re: Inline 6 250
Had a 1967 long bed manual/stepside w/Detroit no spin as good as 4WD. That truck had snort/would peal out and could haul 3 tons in the bed. 250's are great and good mileage too. Wish I would of kept it. Got a mixed year K20 now, like that too.

Re: Inline 6 250
I currently have an 81 GMC Short Stepside with 250 6, T350c, 2.73 rear gears and 31x10.50 rear tires. I drive the heck out of it. RPMs at 70 are around 2k. Granted I am not going to accelerate much with that combo at highway speeds, but it still will go above 70 no issues. I drive it all over, especially right now since my normal DD has no heat. But yes than can survive as a DD. I make a 300 mile round trip with it at least once a month, so drive on

Re: Inline 6 250
When I was a kid, my dad had a 67 LNB with a 6 and TOTT. Was ordered pretty basic. Heavy duty springs and heavy duty heater. Had no trouble running down the highways at speed and frequently used to tow a 16' boat and bring back a heaping bed full of fresh cut firewood. It was my primary 1st learn to drive 4 wheel vehicle. Had been riding motorcycles for years before that. IIRC, it would get about 18mpg running mostly unloaded.

Re: Inline 6 250
I've been driving my 78,C-10,250 six,3 speed on the column for over 15 years now.
It has done great! I pull trailers with it on the interstate with no problems and haul most anything I want. The 250 six has great low end torque for pulling! It's not a race car,but it does have a dependability that can't be beat! Mike. |

Re: Inline 6 250
Thanks everybody, this is exactly the type of info I'm looking for! After the posted experiences, I will not rule a inline 6 out when looking at trucks.
