"Custom" Cab Sail Molding

Can anyone tell me what orientation the sail panel mounting clip is supposed to be?

The holes aren't centered so it looks like it should only install one way to allow the molding edge to catch. But either way I install it there isn't a gap between the clip and cab to allow the molding edge to slide under the clip.

The first pic shows the way I think it should go. It seems like a spacer or washer would work but I don't remember seeing that when I removed the clips years ago.

Thanks! Don't know why that didn't come up in my searches. I have the clips installed properly but can't figure out why there isn't a gap for the trim to slip into. I have the clips with the screw countersinks on top. It looks like I could turn them upside down to get the gap but I'm sure that's not correct.

I also tried the suggestions on the link you provided too...

After cleaning the trim up I think I have decided to get new ones anyway. Since they come with the hardware maybe the install will go better, IF they fit OK.

Everything is original but it looks like maybe if I move the clips to the rear a little maybe the curve of the cab will get the gap I need.
