Can a dash pad and gauge bezel from a 73-80 be installed in an 81-87 truck? I’m trying to build a 73 out of an 82 cab.

I am pretty sure it will work I do know they are shaped just a little bit different but will work . also the wiper switch is on the 73-80 bezel and 81 up has it on the turn signal lever .

Depending on options.... my 82’s both have the wipers on the bezel/no cruise control

I believe the wipers were moved to the column in 84.

My 83 still has them on the dash too.

Anybody have any experience with putting a 73-80 dash in an 81-87? Does the 73-80 dash and gauge bezel require the 73-80 cab? Or are the cabs identical?

There were some changes, over the years, of the dash pads & bezels. There was an old thread that discussed all the changes. I was trying to locate it, but so far, no luck.

73-80 will fit 81-87 etc. However, the VIN will either be partially covered by the 79-80 VIN opening, or fully covered by the 73-78 dash pad. Also, at least when I test fit my 79 dash pad on my 85 cab, the VIN on the 85 cab was raised a bit and caused a bump in the 79 pad. See post #94 on my 79 GMC build below. I test fit the 79 dash and 79 cluster bezel on the 85 cab.

I tried to put my 88 suburban dash into my 79 c30. Not sure if it was the model or year difference, but it just didnt really fit right. I didnt try to massage anything

The older pad fits the '81 and up dash, but the clip tabs in the upper corners just go into the speaker openings. You also need to use the 70's bezel, but that poses a problem in the '84-up trucks. You "can" use the newer bezel, but it fits terribly.
