recommendation for chrome shop?
Hi,
i want to re-chrome the original nose badges on my 1972 GMC Jimmy. Its the three letters that spell out "GMC" attached to the hood. I have polished them up and they look pretty good under artificial light, but when i take them out in full sun i can see that the chrome is so thin in places that the underlying metal shines through. Any recommendations for a good chrome restore / rechrome shop? These pieces are so small that the cost of shipping doesn't bother me. thanks for any advice! |

This place sounds good to me. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=778276 There is also a place in Nashville, Tn. that has a good reputation. https://www.shchrome.com/

Electroplating of El Paso. I’ve used them several times. Good results good prices and reasonable turn around time.

Re: recommendation for chrome shop?
Whats the address to the hayward shop? I sent my pieces for the nose to el paso. They quoted $118 to rechrome the parts (triple process).
But i think i may want to rechrome the interior trim pieces for the side upholstry on my jimmy (i think this chrome piece was only there in the CST edition). Last edited by parb; 01-28-2019 at 03:32 PM. |

Re: recommendation for chrome shop?
my nose logo arrived to their shop today. got a really reasonable quote from them to re-chrome. I hope to get the badge back in a week or two.
They where really nice to deal with. We should create a permalink with vendors we like to do business with. If i get quality back i would add this one to that list... |

Re: recommendation for chrome shop?
I took a rally center cap into a local chrome shop and they basically laughed. Said for them to re-chrome it (but it would look really nice... real nice.) was $200. Each! We can buy driver quality or re-pops a lot less so that didn't make sense for me. Hate to waste these as they are solid just abused with someone's rattle can and slightly bubbled, but is it worth re-chroming? Is there anyone that would do a set for a little more than re-pops?

Re: recommendation for chrome shop?
It was a local guy. Santa Cruz metal polishing.
Truthfully, I wasn't expecting him to rechrome them, he sent it out somewhere. I thought he was just going to help me with a dent and polish them. He doesn't have much of a web page, is an older British guy. Super nice, but I the impression that this wasn't his typical gig. |
