New Guy from MD with a Rare Truck
Morning All! My name is Donny and I'm from Maryland. I just picked up my first heavy truck and its a rare one. Hopefully you guys can help me on some history on this old girl as I'm still learning and researching these trucks.
The truck is a GMC 6500 V6 Crew Cab. I'm having trouble decoding the VIN but believe the truck to be a 1968-70 based on the marker lights and passenger cowl vent. Truck is alil rough but I think its worth saving seeing how rare it is. I'll include a picture of the VIN so hopefully one of you gurus can help decode it. Thanks! |

Re: New Guy from MD with a Rare Truck
Interesting truck. By the Directional Light, as much as I can see it anyway, it is either a '68 or '69. Believe it is an E-Model, as can also be seen in the VIN. Like the Spoke Wheels, interesting on a 6500. And of course, the Crew Cab. If no one jumps in, I can try to break out my GMC book this week-end for more on the VIN.
Welcome to the site by the way.

Man that was a tight fit on that trailer! Welcome to the Board. What kind of direction are you thinking of taking this project?

Re: New Guy from MD with a Rare Truck
Yes it was tight lol. We used every inch of it. My buddy and I purchased the truck together. We wanna build a sick ramp truck on air. Diesel w/manual trans. Your typical ultimate tow rig kinda deal. But its gonna take a lot of work. The end result in my head looks awesome though.

Re: New Guy from MD with a Rare Truck
Interesting truck! It's an EM6500 with vacuum-booster brakes. Engine is either a 305 or 351C V-6. Wonder what company did the crew cab conversion.

Re: New Guy from MD with a Rare Truck
Hey Donny, welcome to the site from Buffalo Rd. I'm no guru on the big trucks, but sounds like you got good info already from those who are. I do know a lot of big truck guys in our area through the ATHS Mason-Dixon chapter and ATCA Old 40 chapter. There were a couple/few companies that built those crewcabs. Does it have an ID plaque? Could be Scott or I'd have to look into my files for others not coming to mind at the moment. Have fun with it!

Re: New Guy from MD with a Rare Truck
Couldn't do anything with the truck this past weekend. Working to finish up other projects. I did get two of the back tires to reseat on the bead and hold air somewhat. The other 2 were blown out. The passenger rear drum is locked up so gotta free that up at some point. My dad said the motor wouldn't turn over so he soaked it with ATF.

Ok, a Westsider, ey? I'm a Northsider. I wondered if I recognized your building. Hey, is that blue 69-72 K/20 still growing moss? You know the one? Been a while since I've been on Sidney.
Check out www.rljacksontrucks.com for the old truck parts. May have something for you if the need arises.

Haha yeh that's my neighbor. We're the ones with the big buildings and long driveway. That truck just got yanked out of there a couple weeks ago. Been there my whole life and then poof gone.

Re: New Guy from MD with a Rare Truck
I've been here since '86 and I think it was sitting there back then. I stopped by a couple times. Been years since I gave up trying. Ever see a white '72 GMC K2500 running around, lately with ladder racks? That's me. Well, not once the salt hits the road
