Info on 76 c30

Hey everyone, I am looking at getting a new tow rig and I found this 76 c30 crew cab 3+3 camper special for sale. It has a 97 cummins swap in it with the 47rh trans. I don't know much about these trucks, like rarity, parts availability, axle ratios etc.

I know there is a huge market out there for the c10 but what about a crew cab dually? I haven't seen many of them. Any info would be great. Thanks!

Re: Info on 76 c30

I wonder what the visibility out of the windshield would be at night, lookd to have a good tint
Should be a good rig for towing with the Cummins

Re: Info on 76 c30

There is no tint on the windshield. Pretty dark on the sides tho. I would take that off for good visibility. I know the 6bt will be fine for towing but what about the rest of the truck?

Re: Info on 76 c30

A longer wheelbase is always good for towing. Body parts will swap with c10's, as will interior parts n stuff. I'd say gas tank but since it's been 6bt swapped I can't guarantee. It's prob got 4.10, maybe 4.56. good for towing. Can swap down to a 3.42 but I'd stay lower since you got od.

Re: Info on 76 c30

Thanks guys! Both are good posts.

It has dual tanks which supposedly work except for the switch. But he says he has the 5 wire conversion for it. The interior is decent but some things are broken. Nothing big. It has the floral trim on it. Which is interesting. I definitely need to read through that manual you posted Keith.

The passenger flare is cracked. Will the step side flare be the same?

Re: Info on 76 c30

Love it! I wouldn't hesitate one bit to buy as a tow rig. Plenty of parts for these trucks still around. Like 74Custom said, everything body and interior wise from a C10 will fit, along with C20.

Looking around the USA for squares I see a lot of the "Western Haulers" down south and out west. Most are all 3+3 C30's with 454 and TH400's. Tow rigs that were made for pulling their weight long distance so I wouldn't be afraid to do the same with this, especially with the updated power train...

What are you looking to haul around?

The stepside flare wouldn't have a provision for a side marker, not sure about fitment

Re: Info on 76 c30

stepside fenders wont fit..but unless its a terrible crack it should be a easy fix..
theres still several of the pre-80 duallys around here but theres a lot more of the 81-up duallys running around...should be a beast with the Cummings
does it still have the spid?...that might give a clue to gear ratio...but a lot can change in 25yrs

Re: Info on 76 c30

Cool. Im really digging it. Yeah I know I've seen a ton of mid to late 80s crew cab duallys. Hardly any pre 80.

Tractorguy, hauling either my 442 or Jk. I would eventually like to buy a double trailer for the 442 and 62 f85. But that's waaaaay down the road.

If this guy can pull this off with his 3/4ton K20, you'll be just fine hauling either one or both the 442 and JK!

Re: Info on 76 c30

Is there a kit or has anyone ever done a rear 3pt seat belt for the bench? I know there are some kits for the front?

Re: Info on 76 c30

The floor under the rear bench in the crew cab is the same as the floor in a single cab there's a big raised area to clear the saddle tanks. I would guess the 3pt belts for a standard cab will bolt right into the back seat on the 3+3. If your cab doesn't have the captive nuts you should be able to liberate them from a knackered regular cab and patch them in.

Hattie, that's awesome to hear. I figured I can make something work. But that makes it a little easier. Thanks.

Straight 6, yeah it's pretty neat. Love the roof rack.
