47-55.1 Another Dash Question....

I removed everything I could from my 1947 3600 cab/dash. One thing that surprised me was how the lower chrome dash trim (the one under the radio that DOES NOT say "Chevrolet" on it) was held in place. Mainly, I was surprised that it was held in so tight! Instead of nuts, all it had was a couple of small pieces of wire wrapped around the broken off studs.
Question is....can those studs be replaced/repaired, or do I need a new chrome piece? It LOOKS like the backing strip can be slid out, but if it a waste of time, I'd like to know first!

Following... Got the same problem. Maybe they could be slid out... Maybe a stud tacked or JB welded in place...

I don't know how pristine or original your truck is, but why not just drill holes through the piece and put countersunk screws though it into the dash? It will look perfectly fine, and only an Chevy aficionado would know the difference.

I thought of that - and my truck is by NO means original - but I'D see those two screws every time I'd get in, and cringe! Dunno why, just would! in someone else's truck, it wouldn't bother me!

You can weld new studs on the inner metal piece.
Might even be enough metal to drill and tap it and then use a screw from the back side.
The outter 2 do all the work.
Middle smaller stud just holds the speaker cover and the middle trim piece some, not threaded.

I looked for a couple hours last night - didn't find a single one! Maybe I'm calling it by the wrong name....

I just went to ebay and searched 1950 Chevy truck dash moulding and this was the first thing that came up.

Yep, change words around, "pickup" may not give you what "Truck" would. When you don't find it, drop a word or two off.

My brother will go on ebay and search for something he knows about, misspelling the word and find them! No kidding! I sold a Buick Hood ornament once, 1965 Skylark. It was broken, to make a long story short, it didn't look aged. I sold it for like $100. The day it sold he sent me an email and said "Look what I just bought." It was an NOS (New Old Stock) perfect hood ornament the same as mine but still in the Buick box! He got it for $25 because the guy listed it wrong! He sold it for something crazy like $250!

I don't know if I sent the lower with the rest of the pieces out of the green cab when I took part of the dash out for one of the guys but I'll try to look tomorrow if I can get back to that cab though the snow.

The one in the red cab is too rusted for the rat rod guys to want so it isn't worth taking out.

Just found my spare lower trim and I have 4 raised nuts on the back. Not sure the thread size but they're going to be pretty fine threaded.

You HAVE NO IDEA! I am usually working on a Farmall tractor to restore. I'm not a stickler for "everything HAS to be ORIGINAL...", but SOME of those guys are pretty stupid about it. They can spot a "wrong" washer from 30 feet, and start berating the guy for not having the correct one! You'd be surprised as to the amount of time, energy, and money that is spent to preserve RUST, because they think it is "original paint". I've even seen tree trunks still attached to the frame because it was there when they drug it out of the fence row! We call them the OP - Originality Police!
Now - every guy has the right to have his tractor - or truck - the way they want it but, to look down your nose at someone because they painted theirs instead of preserving rust is too much.
I could go on for hours, but I better stop while I can!

BTW, nobody take this personal, it's just my story, and I'm sticking to it! I can enjoy them both ways, I just like painted better, your mileage may vary....
