Re: Cost to install wiring harness
I paid for the Painless kit from Summit Racing and installed it myself. It's really not a hard job and the Painless kit has very detailed instructions. I kept the old harness in tact for a reference until I had the new on in and working. It took me a weekend.

Re: Cost to install wiring harness
We need more information. There is a big difference in the cost of a plug and play AAW or M&H factory harness going in a stock truck and installing a custom harness in a LS motored /4L80 truck with aftermarket A/C, full on stereo, air bag controls, remote controlled start and door access, power windows, cruse control. I usually charge between $40-$50 an hour to do these kinds of jobs.

Re: Cost to install wiring harness
Depends on the harness, but figure around $600. Then there's the added cost of wire looms or any other items you may want to replace at the same time. I didn't do a whole lot else when I replaced mine so I paid somewhere around $700.

Re: Cost to install wiring harness
It all depends on the harness you buy. wiringharness.com has many various harnesses that are stockish with mods for HEI and a newer style alternator that bolt in. Painless and AAW offer harnesses you need to terminate.
More spent on a harness means less labor cost. |

Re: Cost to install wiring harness
Havent gotten around to doing my truck yet but using the AAW 15 circuit set up on my camaro with aftermarket everything AC stereo electric fans, updated interior lights, updated under hood. but a SBC It cost me $1000. in labor, my 67 BUick is pretty much stock with a few mods and aftermarket AC total cost will be $1400 done by a shop.

Re: Cost to install wiring harness
I should of done the camaro myself.. I know I could have. but I was afraid at the time to tackle it.. practiced making the proper crimps and bought the tools. (can never have enough tools) and am pretty sure when I get around to the truck it will be cake if I take my time and lay everything out carefully. as for the Buick I would have dont that too but Its at paint and body jail and then are doing it while everything is getting put back together.
But the AAW instructions are very easy to understand and the wiring is labelled every few inches now.. |

Re: Cost to install wiring harness
I think a qualified shop should be able to do it in about 10 hours. Nothing to the harness.

I would have to say theres quite a difference between 10 and 30 man hours
Posted via Mobile Device And on a personal note, running in clean and in loom also takes longer than just running a spaghetti mess |

Re: Cost to install wiring harness
I did it in a weekend with my son, two short days. My son doing most of the work and me eating, drinking beer and smoking stogies and generally being in the way. There is nothing to the wiring harnesses in these trucks fully assembled or not. The kit is completed for you, you don't have to measure wire or decide anything. Three slow downs are cutting in the fuse box, taking out the instrument panel and wrapping the wire in loom tape. I had left over work the second weekend to install my amp I ordered and wire up my speakers. Having done one I would plan to pay 10 hours labor. That's probably where the $1,000 to $1,500 estimates are coming from. 10-15 hours for someone who's not done one but knows the old trucks have easy access to everything. If you go to a custom/restoration shop the rates stated seem fair.
Anyhow, my two cents... worth the price paid! j
