83 intermittent wipers to standard 2 speed wipers

My auto electric shop told me that I can just get a regular 2 speed wiper switch and install it in place of the wiper delay switch and wiper delay module. It should plug right in and still have enough lead to reach the dash mounting location.

Does this sound possible to you guys?

Yes but, you have to remove the intermittent switch and the delay harness attached to it. Then you can plug the 2 speed switch in.

Just look under the cover under steering column, there is the delay module, unplug it and plug the to ends together, and change the switch and you should be good to go.

Not on an 83, you are thinking 84+ trucks with wipers on the column.

Re: 83 intermittent wipers to standard 2 speed wipers

Yes, that's what I was asking the auto electric shop about. I have a wiper delay module (small circuit board in a heatsink housing) which attaches to the wiper switch on the dash via a short harness, and another short harness on the other end which ultimately connects to a larger harness. It didn't look to me that if I used the harness attachment from the main harness that there would be enough slack in the short harness to reach the switch. I will buy a 2 speed switch and see what I can do. Yes, the 83 has a lot of "one year only" features - that makes me feel "special.

It will reach. If its factory delay the harness may be taped up tighter.

I installed the 2 speed switch and it works. The harness was a bit of a stretch but it made it to the dash.
