1968 Chevrolet C60 Spindle Repair
I finally got the axle nuts off of my old dump truck. Someone had tack welded the outer nut to the spindle because the threads were ruined. I cut it off with a torch without doing any further damage but the spindle threads are bad. Does anyone know how I can possibly repair the spindle? Also need to find out where I can get a new axle nut.

Small files and some patience is the only way I know of. Which rear axle do you have?

Re: 1968 Chevrolet C60 Spindle Repair
There are tools for this:
https://mrotools.com/2577-lang-float...SABEgKTcfD_BwE That type is the best solution provided you can find a set that has the proper sized die. This is another solution: https://www.tooltopia.com/otc-tools-7402.aspx This kind works too, all you need is the proper pitch die. You might run into trouble since the genius that fixed it before welded the nut. It well be tough to cut through the remnants of the weld. Good luck, it's worth a shot.

Re: 1968 Chevrolet C60 Spindle Repair
Thank you very much. I will probably purchase the thread restorer. I have a good nut from the opposite side and will try to determine the exact size and pitch. Thanks for your help!

could also use a thread file, which has different thread pitches made into each file.

Re: 1968 Chevrolet C60 Spindle Repair
fyi there are company's / small business type of mobile repair trucks that come out and cut off the bad spindle and weld a new one on for repair .
so if you can not find a fix this might be your only choice . or find another whole axle but that might be fun in its self .

Re: 1968 Chevrolet C60 Spindle Repair
I wonder if the nuts are the same part as for the HO52/72, I am working on one now and it sure looks the same. 2-5/8” OD...
