Parking Break wont stay up!
My parking brake pedal (pedal with release pull type) has no retention and wont stay up on its own. I tied it up to drive it a little after purchasing. I have looked at the diagram in the service manual but dont see how it is mechanically retained. I think there should be a spring somewhere in this setup but I only see one on the drivers side which is connected to the release pull.
The gears are mostly covered by a shield so I cannot see the components or if a spring is broken. Anyone familiar? Thanks |

After the cleaning and lube, check to make sure the cable is adjusted right

I don't see the spring? I agree with oiling it however when mine was doing that the spring was wore out, replaced it and it's worked fine ever since.

// I dont think this is a lack of oiling issue. It moves very smooth, there is just nothing forcing the pedal back up. If you don't physically hold the pedal up, it falls down. Its tied up to keep the brake from engaging. |

Had this issue on my last truck and it's about time to do on my 69 now. Adjust your brake cable and replace the spring and lube. The spring is part of the locking mechanism, when they get weak they don't hold as good..

Re: Parking Break wont stay up!
I actually found one at Lowes just had to reform the end some. I'm sure the parts houses will have something that will work, it doesn't have to exact just a tik stronger.
