LS oil filers-different lengths-part numbers
I’ve had this information for a while, and thought I would share it with pictures showing the different lengths. Here are some additional part numbers with different brands, these are the longer ones.

Re: LS oil filers-different lengths-part numbers
you might want to specify which engine these filters are for...i know theres at least 2 different thread sizes as well as different lengths
i always use AC delco filters

48e for my 5.3 and 46 for my 6.0 46 on left ,48e on right

Re: LS oil filers-different lengths-part numbers
Yes, I bought a bunch of wix 57045 and found out the hard way. I thought they would fit both 5.3's i have. It pissed 6 quarts of full synthetic out on the street in front of my house when the filter blew off.

Re: LS oil filers-different lengths-part numbers
You need to know exactly what engine you're putting them on.
I know for a fact that my 2009 LS4 and 2005 LQ4 use a different size filter nipple. Strange that the 5.3L LS4 uses a larger nipple but it does... it has AFM with the high pressure high volume oil pump stock so that may be the reason.

Re: LS oil filers-different lengths-part numbers
I believe there's more to it than that.
Moral of the story is... not all LS engines use the same filter so be sure to check what goes on your engine.

Re: LS oil filers-different lengths-part numbers
True story. Up to 2006 they all took a PF46 Acdelco filter. 07 classic trucks arrived, and they took the PF48. However, if you've replaced an oil pan and even the GM replacement 4th Gen F-Body Camaro pans take a PF48, even though they weren't made with that from the factory.

Re: LS oil filers-different lengths-part numbers
wow, tough crowd...
my intentions were to help someone, not mislead, so I digress....but I can say that on my 06 5.3L in my 86 I know for a fact the mobile1 M212, and purolator 22500 work just fine....also on my 2013 crew cab with 6.2L those work as well, and also the K&N HP2011 fits, because I just changed the oil a few weeks ago and put it on. I got those referenced numbers off the web in 2013 and they have worked well for me, at least the ones mentioned I have used. Sorry for any confusion

Since those are Gen III (LM7) & Gen IV (L94) engines that reinforces my comment about not generalizing based on LS engine generation. The fun really begins when the previous owner swapped oil pans on you... I was trying to avoid a trip to the store so I gave the filter I use on my LS4 a shot on my LQ4... because I had one and all LS engines use the same filter... I discovered it didn't thread on like it should. NUTS... I got to wash up so I could drive my nice car to the store to get a couple filters to finish the job. I just wanted folks to be aware there are more than one thread size so they didn't get the nasty surprise I did.

Re: LS oil filers-different lengths-part numbers
I wouldn’t say this is a tough crowd. I don’t like it when people post info that isn’t accurate, and that’s what I did. I made an assumption because the switch happened in 2007. No harm no foul.

Re: LS oil filers-different lengths-part numbers
Yeah...bigarmzz...please dont take it as a attack on you...I was trying to point out there was not a "one size fits all" filter
If you would have posted this on some other forum sites, they would have really raked you through the coals...they're a ruff/tuff crowd on some of those other sites

I think it’s pretty funny that my 2011 6.0 takes a wix 57060, and my wife’s grand caravan 4.0 also takes a 57060. Makes it easy. Bought a case of 12 filters. |
