How much air con can I remove
I have a big block with air. How much of the air con can I remove and still have heat and defrost?
Id like to save as much as possible for future use in a different truck. Big block stays in the truck.

All of it. Ac and heat are two separate features.

Re: How much air con can I remove
I would think the box is bigger for the condenser. But if you removed everything but the box you would still have the other functions, if you want the box too you will most likely need a heat only box
I assumed you were talking about the compressor and guys of the ac box

Re: How much air con can I remove
You should be able to gut the AC side of the box, since there are flappers that control air flow depending on whether you are heating or cooling the cabin. If you really do want to save it for later, put it all together and flush it with nitrogen at a little pressure above atmospheric. Might have to put new o-rings in the system to make sure it doesn't leak down, but that would be a whole lot cheaper than replacing corroded parts. Before R-12 was made "unavailable" I used to do this with R-12. Now it's nitrogen, which has the added benefit of being way cheaper.

Re: How much air con can I remove
Vintage Air sells a Heat Only system. I think its around like $250. It should be much more compact than the factory AC/Heater system.
