Re: Please help identify engine.
The DE code comes up as either a 283 or a 307. Your casting number of 3849852 comes up as a '58-'66 283.

Re: Please help identify engine.
Did a 307 ever have the cartridge filter? Will this bellhousing work with a t5?

68 was the first year for larger crank journals on all small blocks. 68 and up blocks no longer had the "breather" passage at rear of block, by the dist. hole, either. Someone here will likely have info on the bell housing, that part of the question is waaay to new for me... |

Re: Please help identify engine.
I was on a 4spd swap site they said that truck bellhousing will alow a 12" Clutch but should not be used with a "car" trans without a bushing? Adapter....
Researching option puting with 51. Have to finish just needs cab painted. All body work done just needs prime block prime sand paint. |

Re: Please help identify engine.
Fairly wide rearend.
With that ratio you likely won’t need an o/d tranny. |

Re: Please help identify engine.
that gear is the most common in a blazer i think an overdrive would put you at 1800 rpm at 60 (283 may not have enough torque...) th350 would be 2400 rpm at 65 long term i want MII... just saw a local guy selling rebuilt th350 long or short shft. $375. would need floor shifter converter flex plate kick down cable and cross member.
still thinking open to advice and sugestions. th350 is stronger than t5 |

Re: Please help identify engine.
283 is happier at higher rpm.
Most motors are. Around 2500 at cruise. Good deal on a t350. Likely all done would be same price as a t5 conversion. |
