Another “what is this” post from me
Hey all
Quick one. Doing some upgrades and clean up on the 76 c19 today I discovered that this canister is not connected to anything. The hose gonna to the engine is just hanging there not connected and the hose going down is split open next to the radiator. So with no fear of looking stupid my question is, what is it? Thanks |

No, a lot of people take them out anyways. Cleans up the engine room. Odd place for it though. It usually mounted low, in the front of the engine room.

Re: Another “what is this” post from me
Those are used to make fuel vapor get sucked into the engine and burned. The system uses a nonvented gas cap so one way or another, the tank is being vented if the system isn't working. It's pretty simple to make it work and has a purpose.

Re: Another “what is this” post from me
If you opt to remove that, you will need to make sure your gas tank(s) get venting. Simply plugging the line to the tank will most likely create fuel flow problems. Plus plan on getting used to a gas smell as instead of being captured by the canister, the vent fumes will simply smell as they are released.

Good luck trying to register your truck in San Francisco with smog devices removed.
Just hook it up with good vacuum lines.

Fuel vapor is a great “additive” to the combustion process-anything to enrich the flammability rate of your mixture is a good thing-the more complete the burn, the more (to a point) you can extend the lean limits to pick up slightly more fuel economy.

Re: Another “what is this” post from me
That is the best evap canister you could have.
Easiest one to hook up, and no extra crap. Run the fuel tank vent(s) to one side, plug the other side into the big port on the front of your carb and VIOLA! No more stinky gas fumes. Good stuff. I would move it to the core support just in front of the steering box. Last edited by Greasey Harley; 05-30-2019 at 02:22 AM. |

It won’t require a new smog till 2020. Maybe the law will be updated to exempt later 70’s vehicles (one can hope). I can’t find where on the carb it should be connected though. Last edited by Funstuie; 05-30-2019 at 02:45 AM. |

Re: Another “what is this” post from me
I would plug it in to that open port on the drivers side front, down by the idle screw.
I think that is a vent. (Somebody please correct me if I'm wrong) Either way, It should live happily there. |
