PCM Mounting Location for LS Swaps?
Like the title says, looking for ideas or examples for where folks are putting the computers on their swaps. Posted the same question in the LSx Swaps forum on here but didn't get much feedback. Tried doing some searching and saw a bunch of stuff for the 67-72 trucks but hardly anything for the 73-87's...
Reason I ask is I'm getting everything together to swap a LQ9/4L80E/NP241 in to my 84 K5 Blazer along with a Vintage Air unit and wanted nail down the PCM location for when Speartech starts making my harness. I was looking under the dash and couldn't see enough open real estate on the driver's side to mount it up under there and VA unit requires modifying the glove box to fit so I don't think I can put it in or behind there on the passenger side either. I'm thinking it's going to have to go in the engine bay, most likely on the driver's side fender/wheel well area to keep the harness lengths to a minimum, but wanted to see what others have done before. Doubt you'll get much more response here.
I'm installing mine on the driver's side fender. I'm using a nearly stock 2010 harness, so I'm also using the stock locations for major components.

Mine is mounted on the inside of the drivers fender just behind the headlight. Stock truck harness.

My Holley HP computer is in the spot under the dash where the center speaker would be. I made a sheet metal bracket to bolt it to. The bracket is then attached to the dash metal.

The 82ish to 86 ESC computers mounted above the glovebox in the RH end of the dash.
Should be plenty of room for an LS PCM there on most of the squares. The LS PCMs were weathertight so the inner fenders are not a bad location.

I used a Tejas mount on the fender. Works perfect

Those look nice and clean. Good job on the install.
30years of experience in mobile industrial electronics has taught me that it's good practice to put the connections on the bottom or at least on the vertical sides of any controllers you install whenever possible. The textbooks say to do that... the real world tends to be a great educator but not very forgiving. The best way to do it is place the connectors on the bottom of the controller with a drip loop in the cables underneath to encourage the water to go elsewhere. Downward pointing terminals are not likely to collect standing or any other water in the connector shells outside the seals that doesn't quickly evaporate. Connectors placed on the Vertical sides will shed most if not all of any small amounts of water spilled on the controller but they can still stay wet for several hours. Connectors on top can get a large enough volume of water pooling in the connector around the wires that it will not quickly evaporate. Sealed or not... they will eventually leak and corrode if water is sitting in the connector shell.
