S10 gas peddle
I got an S10 gas peddle assembly for the 48, I hope.
Does anyone have pictures of one installed? It looks to me like it should mount right where the channel is on the inside of the firewall on the 48. Also, it has a big metal bracket on it. I can cut that down if needed. Thanks.

Re: S10 gas peddle
No idea but what ever gas pedal you use, do some planning and put it where it will be most comfortable to operate. I probably have had ten gas pedals in my truck over the years some for an extremely short period of time because they were so uncomfortable to operate.
The hanging pedal like that is real hard to get just right too.

Re: S10 gas peddle
Thanks Mr48.
And I knew I spelled pedal wrong, I just didn't check it before I hit send. My confusion on the pedal is that where I think it should be is where the channel stiffener is. I may have to throw a seat in, the brake pedal and see where to put it.

Re: S10 gas peddle
I'd have both in first. I think I finally used a pedal out of either a Mercury Bobcat or 66 MII that I had. I scrapped the MII to fix the Bobcat even though I had bought the MII to stick the engine out of the Bobcat wagon in. We started in on the MII and the whole bottom was rusted out.

Re: S10 gas peddle
With all the S10-AD build threads on this forum I can't believe there aren't dozens of gas pedal mounting pics. Will a Jeep suffice?
Edit: just happened to find another pic while reading 28TudorAZ build thread. Looks like he modified it. By "stiffener" are you referring to the steel channel spot welded to the inside of the firewall? They were in the way of everything so I took them out.

Thank you. I see a lot more fab work in my future!

Re: S10 gas peddle
I'm using the TrailBlazer pedal so I had to make my bracket. I put in the seat and steering wheel to make sure this was fairly comfortable. My only complaint/issue may be that the brake sits further back, relative to the accelerator pedal than in most newer vehicles. I think I'll be fine.

Re: S10 gas peddle
when you say it has a big metal bracket, I can tell its probably an 88-93 pedal, they had a big bracket over the top to keep wiring from interfering with the throttle cable.
if you mount it flat to the firewall you will probably need a couple bends to get the pedal off the floor, because it will be right at the taper of the AD floorboard and it will prevent you from pushing all the way down. I use the s10 pedal on all of my trucks, usually I spot in the piece of firewall that holds it but its easy enough to make it mount without the firewall chunk because it mounts pretty well flat. yes, mine is always right by that brace that runs down the firewall. I spent a lot of time figuring the relationship between the brake and gas pedals because you dont want to accidentally push both.

Re: S10 gas peddle
if using a hinged or hanging pedal, first figure out how much travel you need at the engine end of things to move the lever on the throttle body, then figure out how far away from the hinge point the cable or linkage will need to be on the inside of the truck to give AT LEAST that amount of cable/linkage travel. I have seen some pretty cool looking accel pedals and the owners have said there seems to be a power problem. it doesn't take long to figure out that the whizzie pedal doesn't open up the throttle fully. I have seen others where they have used a stock pedal from something but then found out the geometry is wrong for their set up and the fix was to lift the pedal off the floor more. that means the heel of your foot is off the floor in order to get the pedal to work or the angle of your foot soon brings a charlie horse to your shin muscles. not that comfy.
it isn't that hard to figure out if you know the length of the pedal arm from the pivot point to the pedal. then figure out on paper how far away from the pivot point the cable connection needs to be to get the proper amount of pull on the cable. I have used motorcycle cable and adjusters on some of my old one off's in order to get an adjustable length cable the right length. that means fabbing both ends though, including the brackets. |

Re: S10 gas peddle
remember to leave room for the floor mats and sound proofing etc under the pedal.

Re: S10 gas peddle
Yea... I need to play with mine. I like the spot I put it in but the cable is off. The engine was farther away from the firewall in the donor than it is now.

Re: S10 gas peddle
Thank you all.
I think I can get this thing mounted, but after I get the engine mounted and a seat in the cab.

Re: S10 gas peddle
Here ya go. I used the stock S10 pedal. After mounting, I ended up cutting the connecting rod and making my own plate. The stock location hit the floor too soon, so I felt like I wasn't able to use the full stroke of the carburetor. Still needs some tweaking as I think its personal preference where the pedal sits. I thought I saw someone on here who made an adjustable one. That might be the route I go if I redo it.

Re: S10 gas peddle
Thanks Gigamanx, that is the pedal I have and this will help a lot, especially showing how/where you mounted it.

Re: S10 gas peddle
I went the other direction and fabricated an arm and bracket to pull the throttle cable using the original gas pedal.
