Installing new tie rod ends
So I got new tie rod ends and will be putting them on this weekend hopefully. So I can see that they are different than the originals. I guess I need to eliminate the ball on the steering components to bolt in the tie rod. Any advice on getting them out. Will they press out?

First suggestion, Measure the exact length of the old ones. Then, when you install the new ones, screw them on so that you again have that exact same length. This helps attempt at staying close to the same alignment you started with. Second suggestion. Use tie rod end removing tool. IF you do not have one, rent one from the parts store. AutoZone and O'Reilly's both rent them. Make sure it is the correct size. There are about three sizes and you don't want one for ball joints if you are doing tie rods. Have fun, listen to great music and take your time.

Re: Installing new tie rod ends
I believe this is the information you're looking for. The originals were the cupped ball trunion type and the replacements (I assuming) you're using are tapered stud ones. Follow this link for more info: http://www.classicperform.com/tech_a...od-Upgrade.htm This ought to show you a good description of the parts and procedure.

Yep that’s the info I needed. Kind of what I expected to have to do just wanted to make sure.
Thank you |
