Derek’s 1961 Apache older restoration makeover.

Doing some work on a friends 1961 Apache. He bought it a couple years ago and wants me to give it a mini makeover. The truck is a sold runner driver with some dated upgrades. 350/350trans, front disc brakes, power steering, mid 70’s car? tilt column, aftermarket gauges, diamond plate bed floor. Here is what I started with.

Re: Derek’s 1961 Apache older restoration makeover.

I gave it a good wash and a once over. Removed some old funky from it. I dig this truck. It’s not perfect or high dollar but it’s got a Cool Vibe. We are not trying to shake the world just give it a little more attitude.

Re: Derek’s 1961 Apache older restoration makeover.

My biggest complaint about the truck is the Pink stripe. The stripe is kind of cool, I am just not a pink guy. Even after the wash the stripe was still pink. I was hoping it was a oxidized maroon, maybe it’s just faded.

Re: Derek’s 1961 Apache older restoration makeover.

I put the right hood back on it then I lowered the front, adjusted the torsions turns out this truck already had dropped spindles...COOL! In the rear I put in a CPP rear 5” dropped cool. I used old rims, tires, caps off my Beater 61. What a difference!

I had to cut off most of the exhaust. They spent some time routing this.

Good looking truck, chevy back up lights are a nice touch also. Cardinal red looks great.

Painted fronts this AM. This Cardinal Red is such a cool color and it’s a stock color for the year.

Cool truck. Wondering about the tailgate latch and strap setup?

No idea. Assuming it’s from a station wagon. It’s a cool Idea.

After. Added a 1960 truck steering wheel and horn button. Also added a 60-66 column shift knob. Way BETTER!!

After. What a difference some spay paint can make! Still need to find the 1961 grill insert. Chrome bumpers are next!
