Another Frame Crossmember Question

Trying to figure out what is original, modified, or missing from my frame. I have noticed that in number of frames in some of the builds have a crossmember that sits right behind the transfer case. What is the purpose of this cross member? I do not see it on the frame spec sheets I have downloaded and mine does not have it.

Here are a couple of pics I took from another thread.

Re: Another Frame Crossmember Question

In the second pic you can see the bracket that connects the frame to NP 205, lots off discussions on whether to use this bracket or not, possible trans. housing breakage...

Hmmm. I do have the bracket for the TC. Did not realize it was a controversial item. I am not doing any hardcore offroading so I will hopefully be OK.

Well, if it were a good thing, wouldn't GM continue to use it after '72. There is a rather long thread on it somewhere on this site, with a rather compelling discussion against using it. Although I have a 'K' case to put in the jimmy, not sure on the bracket

I am sure you will be fine. Plenty of people use it without issue.
