my radio and need an antenna
This is what was in the truck. My friend was in High End Audio 40 plus years ago and referred to this brand as Fry an Ear. Then nother friend said its actually not too bad for the day. I hooked up some home speaker to it and it sounded fairly decent compared to the speakers down at my feat. My ankles have always been hard of hearing.
I put in a cassette and not too bad for a few minutes then it stopped. Removing it was interesting sort of like when I go to use an extension cord. Some kind soul snapped my antenna off, I guess he was hoping to help me get better gas mileage. With a 411 rear it didnt help much. I have the original antenna just the shaft not the base and it was Am. I guess I wander into a stereo shop. Might have been a CB radio as well not sure there are some hook up things there. The original antenna is very fine with a ball on the end and was an AM radio, was the FM one the same just a different base and wiring? Last edited by Warren; 10-11-2019 at 11:32 PM. |

Re: my radio and need an antenna
Thats a really cool radio and high end at the time.
Your antenna is not factory and i have never seen an aftermarket antenna that wasnt for just AM so it was am/fm for sure. I have heard the repro antennas fit fine. |

Re: my radio and need an antenna
when i got my truck i tried to find an old two knob factory GM am/fm or a old Pioneer super tuner something that would work. but in the end i would up cutting the hole for single din
as the retro ones that i tried were crap. hold on to that beauty and maybe some one can upgrade the internals if you ever wanted to

Re: my radio and need an antenna
I had a little Pioneer amp like that back in the 80s!

Re: my radio and need an antenna
That's what I was thinking...I had a big stack of stuff hanging down below my '68's dash too back in the '80s. Had an amp under the seat, 6x9s in the doors!, boxed woofers wedged under the front of the bench seats and tweeters sitting in the corners of the dash where the windshield meets it.
Under the dash was a nice equalizer like the OP shows here and a spectrum analyzer that the ladies really liked! I also ran a police scanner up on the dash in the center in my later cruisin' years! It had a red light that went back and fourth like a wicked robot alarm system or something! Ahhhh to be young and full of good ideas again! -klb

Re: my radio and need an antenna
A standard telescoping antenna should work fine. Back in the day when AMs and AM/FMs were both available and still used telescoping antennas, the owners manual for a car I had (think it was my '65 Impala SS) said to adjust the antenna to 31" (32"?) for optimum FM reception.

Re: my radio and need an antenna
cant seem to find a USB input on it
I did wonder if car stereos were to that point and see they are. I have one car where the CD player skips when I hit bumps. I guess I start by taking this one out and seeing what it is. Thanks on the power antenna thought and others as well. Think the original Antenna might look nice but since only AM and the base is missing ill just keep the post part with other parts. |

Re: my radio and need an antenna
Yeah, I used to have all those electronics gadgets too.
Sanyo AM/FM Cassette -- fit perfect in the dash, 5.5'' Jensen speakers in the doors, an amp bolted to the heater box, an EQ box set under the glovebox, a Radar Detector [X-K] velcro-ed to the passenger's sunvisor, CB rig under the heater controls, CB Remote speaker screwed above the rearview mirror, a 9'' 2-speed fan above the passenger seat. Also had a 3-port cigar lighter socket junction under the glovebox. No scanner in the '68 pickup, but the '67 Suburban had one piggy-backed on top of the CB. When I bought the '71 Jimmy in 1995, I got a SSB CB rig for it and rabbit ears, but never installed them. The Jimmy still has a cop scanner. I cleaned up the cab in the '68 Stepside when rebuilding the engine [2002 - 05] --added a Radio Delete plate, and went back to fleet truck profile. I use a GPS, now. Mounted agaist the Radio Delete plate with sticky tape, and shelved by the open ashtray. On the freeway, the speedo needle jumps too much to be legible, but not the GPS speed display. The automatic retractable AM/FM antennas look cool, but won't fit in the cowl space under the stock antenna mount.
