bench seats

What would/did you guys pay for decent bench seats.

Been scouring craigslist/offerup/letgo and generally its all crappycrap out of dodge vans and such. Price is good if I just throw a cover over it ..... but anything decent is over $400.

Custom looks like $500 - $1000.

Time to start going to car shows ?

lol

Re: bench seats

I paid $25.00 for a 3rd row seat out of an Astro van. still in plastic. found it at a garage sale. it's in my '49 so I don't think its wide enough for your 57 panel.
I do have a set of buckets out of a mustang in good shape if you were a bit closer.

Re: bench seats

Most of those FB Market place and Craigslist adds are someone thinking that they are going to get rich selling their old seats. Totaled the ride, only had liability because it was paid off years ago, wrecked it and trying to get more than it would sell for out of the parts.

All I can say is know exactly what you want and are willing to pay and maybe search a bit further out.

From the looks of things you live were a lot of us would at least like to spend the cold months and chances are disposable $$ may generally be a bit more available to a lot of folks in the area and paying 500 for a seat that brings 200 150 miles away isn't a big deal for them but it screws up prices for working folks.

Re: bench seats

Yeah.

I have found seats for vans in average condition for $50.
But I'm really looking for something that has a bit more of a period look.

I have two bucket seats from an audit in there right now ...... only reason for looking at something a bit more vintage looking - doesnt look quite right.

Re: bench seats

normal bench seat will block access to the back of your panel
or at least require the flexibility of a 10 year old gymnast to get in back
better buckets might be your best choice

Re: bench seats

go to the yard yourself, offer to pull it. I use 88-98 chevy seats in my trucks, never paid over $75 and that was for a really nice recovered one seen below. most are $50 or less. that style has benches, 60/40 splits, or buckets with console. sometimes you can even find buckets with a center seat/console.

Hi I used a second row seat from a Buick Rendevous. Leather like material, tip forward, arm rest with cup holder. $ 100.00 from local wrecker.

Re: bench seats

Do you not have the stock bench seat?

I ask because I used my stock seat but removed the springs and used a wood backer with modern foam that lets you shape it however you (or your upholsterer) wants.

I didn't realize this was how I was going to go so I had my stock seat sandblasted and powder coated gloss black before then removing the perfect unbroken springs. They're still in my garage!

Obviously, it bolts right back down but appears custom. Well, at least to me!

Re: bench seats

I am NOT a fan of head rests in these old trucks. I will most likely be re doing my original seat. right now it is covered with a couple of blankets

Re: bench seats

dang fakky! your looking at expensive crap seats that need rebuilding before you recover them
your going to have $1200+ in them to make them look good
how bad are your current seats? might use them until you find something better
my 59 panel had seats similar to the camaro seats, i ended up using a cedar 4x4 as a seat pedestal

Yup.
That's probably the best one out there $$ wise..... Was hoping for vinyl/leather.
Maybe I'll go check it out this weekend. I emailed him a week ago ... generally only available in mornings (I work) or weekends.

I dont.
It came with seats sort of like a old camaro bucket seat but they were pretty rough. So I sold them for like $50. as quotes on refinishing with vinyl were $400 and up.

In haste I bought some audi s8 seats ..... and they are ok .... was just thinking of going a little more classic look.

Re: bench seats

guys, guys, guys... fakky is dealing with a panel truck
none of the options shown will work to gain access to the back of a panel

i wonder if some of the fold up 'stow and go' seating would work
fold the back forward and hinge seat forward (not down into floor)
this is similar to original 50s suburban seating

check these out fakky, not sure if they have seat tracks

Definitely going to use the audi seats if I dont find anything better.
Was just suprised to find anything half decent was going to cost me as much as my engine and trans -and I didnt underpay for that either.

Was just starting to think we ll thats the way it is then - $500 for anything decent. These posts have helped me to keep looking though.
