Parts list question

I am going to pull the motor from my 68 C-20 327 with TH400 this winter to try and eliminate any oil leaks.

Any suggestions on what to replace? I feel like I am missing something from this list I made or tricks of the trade that you would share. I have read a lot of thread about the oil pan gasket in particular but assume if I order a pan from Summit, I will know exactly what gasket to get with it. looking for any advice here since I am new to the truck. I have always owned newer vehicles and always have done my own work so I have learned having the right stuff and advice from experienced folks is invaluable.

Oil pan with magnetic drain plug
One piece Felpro oil pan gasket
Rear main seal
Valve cover gaskets
Timing cover gasket

Don’t forget to replace the front crank seal in the timing cover. Check your intake manifold gaskets as well while you have the engine out. Wouldn’t hurt to replace cooling system gaskets if you’re going all out - Recommend purchase a full reseal gasket kit rather than buying individual parts. Would ask why you’re planning to replace the whole oil pan? If you do - make sure it has the correct side oil dipstick (same applies if buying only gaskets). Also remember to at least check your oil pressure gauge fitting on the lock for any sign of a leak.

I was not aware they sell a whole reseal gasket kit. I'll look for that.
replacing oil pan because it's dented and bad repair job attempted on what looks like it had a leak. I just want it to be right, the truck is too nice of condition for me not to do things the right way. Honestly it probably only needs the oil pan and valve cover gaskets done, but I am going to pull the motor and put it on a stand and figured might well do them all and not have to worry about any of them again. Anything I should do about tranny? I have a new driveshaft carrier bearing that came with the truck so I will do that while it's out too.

Ah, yeah, I’d replace the pan too. Don’t forget, probably plenty of originals on the parts board available, might find a good original there. As for trans, if it’s an auto and you’re pulling it, I’d replace input shaft real, tail shaft seal, and pan gasket. Also check the speedo connection and fill tube insert point for leaks.

What ever you do---DO NOT get a chrome oil pan. the objective here is to stop oil leaks not bolt them on. Just get a complete gasket set and do everything

"Well, I'm this far, I may as well look at the rod bearings".
"These look sort-of worn. Best replace 'um."
"Crank is a bit scored. Might get it reground".
"Now that the heads are off, seems to be a bit too much carbon on those valve stems, better have a look at those guides"
"These things wobble at bit too much, need a valve job".
"Well, I'm this far.................."

Oh, I hear you!! I have a 73 Camaro that turned into a complete cut it up and reweld it all back together project. I will certainly avoid that on this project. Because it is so nice, I want to keep it original or I would put a modern drivetrain in it. But I just don't want oil leaks so I will ONLY fix that for now.

Any suggestions on best vendor or kits?
I looked on Summit for complete engine seal kit and they come with head gaskets and all. I don't need all that but I will buy the kit if it makes sense.

The bigger issue I had with Summit's kit is it wasn't a one piece oil pan gasket. It comes with the cork pieces and I don't want that.

I'll buy a kit then the extra pieces I want but I be good if it's already a known thing from someone that already bought one.

It's a stock C-20 327 and the dipstick is on the drivers side.

I would also check the freeze plugs since you will have the motor out.

I did the same on my truck, left motor in. I bought it all piece meal at rock auto. I had specific gaskets I wanted for intake, oil pan, heads,rear seal. The other stuff I bought cheapy paper. Front seal I forgot, bought at O'Reilly, drove it in 1/8" shy of home to keep it out of the groove worn on the balancer.

Pull the dust cover before you condemn the rear seal. It is easy to see after removing the cover
