Old Friend's Truck For Sale

I went to elementary school with the long time owner/builder of this truck. It was built in the late-'80s. It has extensive custom chrome work and was a masterpiece in it's time... and still. It's a Super Chevy show winner. Carl is a body man. He told me it was for sale a few years ago and it looks like this "Classics" dealer bought it to put $10k on it. I don't understand why they show repetitive pictures and no interior, engine, or undercarriage shots. Kinda bugs me but that's their problem. Before you look, put it in perspective. This truck was built 30 or so years ago back when LS meant Luxury Sport, and it is bad to the bone

That's a chrome core support behind that grille.

Re: Old Friend's Truck For Sale

Looks like a killer 90’s built truck. A style I’ve always liked.

But seriously though, how hard would it be to post decent pics? Especially with a $35k price tag. Drives me nuts when sellers don’t post pics where you can see the whole truck.

Re: Old Friend's Truck For Sale

Thanks for showing a picture. I should have thought of that

I remember seeing this truck at Super Chevy Shows at the local drag strip. It had the steering column, pedals, heater, e-brake assembly, and more chromed out as well as many things under hood. It was maybe '88 or so. I got on Facebook ten years ago last month. In '69, at the end of 8th grade I moved away from the area where I went to school with him. We were all car nuts back then, admiring the older guys' cars and building car models/HO tracks, and riding Sting Rays. I hooked up with a gal from back then through FB and ended up "friending" Carl. I had posted a picture of my truck at Carlisle or at work and he came along with, "Good to see another Chevy Man here". Maybe a year later he contacted me asking if I knew anyone that wanted to buy a truck and showed a picture. I instantly recognized it from 20 year prior and asked if he had it at the 75 & 80 Drag-A-Way Super Chevy show way back when. "That would be it", he said. I think he was looking to get $25k and he had just rebuilt the 454. I guess this dealer picked it up. You'd think a dealer would know how to present a vehicle. I messaged them asking why only multiple shots of only one side with no interior or under hood shots of Carl's great work? I haven't checked for a reply yet. I'm thinking it may have an irritated tone or just be ignored. I've seen it on Marketplace a while back. It showed up in a box when I went there last night. Probably be these for a while with the way it's being presented.

Tan interior? Must be color blind. Teal is more like GM's Dark Turquiose, too. I forgive. This dealer, like so many, knows less about these trucks than most members here.

Yes, Jim. Marketplace

The dealer replied to my message with this link:

A few pictures of the interior. I guess the heater wasn't chromed. Hey, gimme a break. Last I saw it was 30 years ago

Tim, I use my wife's Facebook page. Bought a 71 4x4 over the summer off of market place!

Re: Old Friend's Truck For Sale

Really nice build and I remember when that was the style to build. While it never was my style I still understand and appreciate the level of work and detail it takes to build something of that fit, finish, and caliber.

Yes, you would think someone selling cars would know more about how to attract the folks with the means to buy something like that and present it in way to generate interest.

Re: Old Friend's Truck For Sale

I'm more practical now, and appreciate the trucks less modified as well these days. but this is the style I always went with. Built some ground pounders of my own back then. I don't see a highly altered from original form truck here. Body left as built with the exception of the cut out hood. Tube grille swaps right out. Interior was done stock-like with the glovebox door done to match the instrument cluster. The type of mod that is really just doing what GM should have or could have done if cost wasn't a factor. They made them match, but not really. I figure they left that up to me. They actually did start out that way until they started plating the cluster. I have had 8-10 glovebox door chroming in my time.

For me this style with never go out of style. We speak or era-correct. Well, there's more to that than just the era these trucks were built. These trucks have been through quite a few eras and nailing any one of them is just too cool in my eyes. Even the eras I ignored to stay with my favorite. The one these come out of. If I had the money I'd build one with tricked out metal flake paint, tru-spokes, crushed velvet, and I have a tin of trucks played out in my mind I have yet to see anything similar done. If I had the money I once had I'd...………………....
………….. But I don't. I just sit back and watch some ideas come to life by those who can.
