Does anybody know the cheapest way to send a Center Link steering bar (it weights about 6 lbs) from South Carolina to Taxes.

Re: Shipping
Greyhound is really cheap for large parts. Only problem is you have to go to the bus station for drop off and pick up the part. Maybe one of those triangle tubes through UPS or FedEx?

If you have a Fastenal store close to you take it there and ask them about it. Otherwise wrap it in some cardboard, tape it up good and take it to your local Post Office and have them give you a price. You will need the address and ZIP of where you are shipping it to. They will ship stuff up to 70# I think. LockDoc

That, and I think most places now have a surcharge for odd shaped packages. If that is the case you would be better off making or finding a rectangular box for it. I don't know if the P.O. still has the long triangular boxes that maverick mentioned or not, they used to. Just be sure to use a lot of packing tape and pad both ends of the box so the link doesn't poke through the ends of it..... LockDoc

Re: Shipping
For odd shaped containers, I go to Lowes, Home Depot, etc.. Go to the back of the store (receiving dept.) and ask them to let you dig through their box pile.. Stuff they sell by the foot, carpet, underlayment, their delivery "aids", all come on stiff cardboard tubes.. You'd be surprised what you'll find back there.... And it free, just the right price for cheap bastards...

Re: Shipping
Another option for long pieces being shipped is to use a piece of PVC plumbing pipe. Go to your local carpet store for the round carpet roll tubes. Make a rectangular box from a large flat sheet of card board. Lot of options for the container but shipping costs are what they are. Not likely to go down in price either. Guess it is the cost of finding that one part you need for your ride. Sometimes just have to bite down on the bullet and do what ya gotta do.
