Skip white distributors

Have had read a lot of post with people running the skip white distributors and saying that they are very good and affordable. Does anyone have a link on here to get one for a 1972 gmc truck? I go to his website and it is mainly ford distributors, the ones he does have for chevy 350 are the MSD and they are not cheap at all. All the post I have read here say they are anywhere from 60-100 bucks, and it also says they are purchased on eBay. I was looking at just getting the MSD street fire hei with the matching coil and ignition box that whole set up is just over 500 dollars and from what I read on here I could spend 200 on the same stuff but different brand that will do the exact same thing as the name brand stuff, Anyway was just hoping someone had one info, or other suggestions on hei distributor and which coil and ignition box they use or work well. Thank you.

I found a sumitt blueprint dizzy lasy year for $75 could be the same as a skippy dist. I dont know . Speedway allso has them on sale once in a awhile

I've been burned by Skip White before, it's real low quality Chinese junk. Lots of people here think they're great and have no issues, while plenty of others have had nothing but problems. I would avoid them at all costs, you really get what you pay for with Skip White. You'd be better off with a GM HEI or a reputable aftermarket one set up correctly.

Personally I have had 2 Skip White distributors fail and a third one was Dead On Arrival (They sent a replacement). One failed when the engine temperature reached about 3/4 dial (whatever that is) and I figure that maybe the module was not insulated properly or the design was faulty. The other one failed after I left the ignition on while I did a short job, maybe 45 minutes.

I just ordered a JEGS $72 Distrib but it might be the same thing basically.

When I get some time I might hit the junk yard, or research a good affordable GM distrib. The "GM Performance" one is $248 at JEGS and that seems a bit high, but then again, being stuck out in Bumfk with 2 guys on the clock is kinda expensive too. Then AAA won't tow with a load in the back (sides up). I wish I knew a good dependable and affordable one myself. -BA

I bought an msd streetfire hei online at advance auto and picked up in store. I did this because when you go to their website and put in your email, it gives you a code for 25% off.

There are lots of other sources but I personally wont use any of these Chinese knock offs.

Regardless of what you end up buying, it is always advisable to have the new distributor's advance curve set to suit your engine and driving requirements.

All of you are awesome, thanks for the guidance, I finally got my engine do e a couple months ago, has about 100 miles on it. I saved up until I could upgrade it to the 383 package and with just 100 miles on it they have been an extremely fun 100 miles lol. I think I will just pony up and get the MSD set up with the coil and ignition box. Thanks again for all the input. I didnt know skip whites were made in China. Nothing against the Chinese but I'll find one made here!! Hopefully. Thanks again

A craigslist motor I purchased came with a MSD StreetFire HEI, I used it for a couple years , worked great, no issues. It's MSDs budget line, made in china, quality is pretty good. MSD has good customer service.

I cured myself from the pain of replacing failing cheap Chinese parts, and cured my pain in the wallet from buying top notch more expensive Chinese parts. I buy the ACDelco or Delco Remy original GM part from the local car parts store, the rebuilt ones with lifetime warranty and that are stamped USA. And I subscribe to the premium membership here on this forum so I can post want-to-buy ads, and buy from forum members good condition used parts. I think that is the route I would take if I needed a distributor.

I've has good luck with Accel HEI distributors. I'm using it on my supercharged 350 SBC. Price is less than $90.
