Trans Cooler Question

Those of you with aftermarket trans coolers, where did you run the lines to get the cooler in front of the radiator. By looking at it, I am guessing I am going to have to drill holes in the core support, or that metal piece between the core support and the front bumper?

Also, when you use the radiator cooler too, which line goes where.

Thanks

If drilling holes in the core is a seriouse issue to you, you could route the lines up and over it. It'll look kinda out of place...but it'll get the job done with no new holes.
Being your location, your best bet would be to route the oil from the rad to the aftermarket cooler, and then back to the tranny.
For a truck in cold climates, and that is not driven very far or run very long, (but sometimes worked hard) going to teh aftermarket cooler first may be benificial. In extreem weather locations, too cool of oil can be an issue.

I think on the 67/68, that area is blocked off with a pan of sorts.
If not, that would be even better than what I said.

make the holes in the support over is rediculous and lower cna easily be ripped out if you off road or anyting right through the core support is the cleanest look and like lornhorn says you gotta watch the way ya route it in a cold climate

Something else to think about, fellow phoenixer, is to mount the cooler somewhers else. I recently put a cooler on a another project under the body with an air scoop, there is plenty of room under the chassis for that. You could also run one from the trans to the radiator cooler then back to a remote mount cooler then into the trans.

I just worry about something kicking up and damaging it under the body like that.

Whick trans line is in and which is out on the radiator?

On mine, I ran the hoses under the core support and tie wrapped them firmly so no dragging or any chance of anything catching them. But I don't offroad either.

In Texas heat, I decided to leave the original hard line coming from the trans to the top hole of the radiator cooler. Then from the bottom hole of the radiator cooler, I ran a rubber hose to the top hole of the aftermarket cooler which I mounted in front of the radiator. The bottom hole of the aftermarket cooler has a rubber line ran to the remaing piece of hard back to the radiator. No problems in 7 years.

On the 350 and 700r4 the fluid enters the top and leaves the bottom. Just went throught that for trans cooler install that had a bypass that needed that information. The instruction said to take the lines loose and crank motor to see the oil pushed out the dicharge line. But a little help from friends is a little less messy. Ed ke6bnl So. Calif
