What are these holes for?

I have always been curious why these holes exist...any ideas?

I was guessing CB mic as well. Those were the days... except when the CB was blaring so loud you couldn't hear the 8 track playing.

That was my guess as well (CB mic) but did not want to sway opinion. There are holes right under the heat control too where I assume the CB unit was. My 3 gauge panel covers those now.
