Guys,

Some things have come up in my families life recently and I may need to sell my 72 short step. Can anyone here tell me what it's worth, a ball park? It's not definite that I will be selling but am curious, would probably list in AutoTrader and the local paper. Also, I have accumulated many parts for it as well. Would it be better to sell everything as a package or sell parts?

72 short step, 95% original. 250 I6 with HEI runs strong but puffs on start and drips a little, 3.73 singletrack, 3spd on column. Four new shocks. Cab corners and floor supports need replaced and little spot on right bed wall, everything else rust free. Needs a wood floor in bed. It's super clean and driven daily. I also have another 250 I6 HEI with 1100 miles on it. I have complete I6 PS setup and AC brackets and pulleys. I have an auto tilt column with cruise button on turn signal lever and like new steering wheel out of a 91 Chevy. PB booster, sway bar, and blazer tank conversion kit...complete, and locking differential ready for install. Spare tire on drivers side, I have since found another wheel cover to match the other four. I hate to consider this but may not have a choice.

Anyway, here it is...any help much appreciated.

They are really worth what someone is willing to buy it for....Nice truck though. With the step and I6 you are probably looking at 4000-5000 for the right buyer...

Sorry Doug, Just read your ad a bit closer.....Jumped the gun a bit....With the rust and the 3 spd column shifter you are looking at $2500 or so Max... around here anyway.....

Your truck is nice. A truck like yours with the inline 6 and three on the tree is pretty basic. Most buyers want the step fender without the spare tire cutout. I have bought and sold several of these and I would be looking to get between $2,500.00 and $3,000.00 as yours is much nicer than most. I think $2,500 is closer to the mark for a reasonably quick sale. This is a realistic value for the truck. If you get the right buyer you could get more. I only responded as I know how it is to have to sell a truck that you love. It is priceless to us but getting cash is another matter. I will tell you that I bought a nice running 70 SWB stepside truck w/no dents or rust that I drove for 2 years and paid $1,500.00 for. I think it was a steal but that is pretty much the value of a truck like that. Hope you end up not having to sell it as it would cost a lot more than what you could get for it to fix up a truck that nice.

Douglas-
At the 2500 mark, I would keep the paerts and sell them separately. Unless you need them to sure up the sale I wouldnt even mention them.

My short step with the non-spare fender was 1200 bucks last summer. Last guy owned it for 24 years. Same as yours 6 cyl, 3 speed, 3.73 rear.

My truck has no rust though. Doesn't need rockers or anything.

The extra parts you have should bring pretty big bucks right here on the board. The 6 cyl P/S stuff is particulary rare (as I'm sure you know).

You're going to feel pretty low if you sell it. You won't get near enough for it and it will eat you up inside. I've been there.

I was only talking about the truck. I would keep the parts or make a separate deal for them.

If you have no choice but to sell the truck, then get as much as you can for it, but keep the parts for the truck you'll most likely buy when times are right again. Good Luck to You, and remember to never give up hope.
