Guess I have to change to 5 lug if I want wheels
I originally planned on doing transit/transport 22” wheels. Give it enough time, and your plans will ALWAYS change. Now that I’ve had more time to look at pics and pics and pics my mind has changed again.
I was told last year sometime that if I want a variety to choose when it comes to wheels I would need 5 lug. Well, now I need five lug. I bought 2.5” drop spindles up front for disc conversion from pol. I had multiple issues with them not know exactly what they sent. My best guess is that they are the newer 72+ spindles but the rotors should all be the same? I can just tell them I need 5 lug rotors? For the rear end i need to swap the axles. So I kept the factory rear end, which if I recall it was 3.73:1? Stock 6 lug axles, and I bought an expensive Eaton tru-trac. So I want to make sure I get the correct axles to mate with that differential. Figured I’d put it out there just in case there is something I’m overlooking before I go spending a bunch more money to reduce the number of lugs! |

Re: Guess I have to change to 5 lug if I want wheels
It's true, you have a lot more options in 5 lug for these C10's.
I bought my disc brake upgrade kit from POL as well. I asked them if I could just buy stock replacement 5 lug rotors for a 71-72 C10 and they said yes. That's about the cheapeast way to do it on the front end from Rock Auto. Even if for some reason you have 73+ spindles, it appears to be the same rotor. On the rear end, it depends on the year of your truck. Also assuming it's a 12-bolt. The 67-70 rear ends are narrower than the 71-72 axles. You can get Moser 5 lug axles from Summit or even Amazon. Here's a link to the narrow axle shaft from Amazon (note it's only one axle): https://www.amazon.com/dp/B005TDQ9OY...v_ov_lig_dp_it You'll also need 5-lug brake drums, same source - Rock Auto - for a 71-72 C10. Oh and 1/2-20 studs for the rear axles.

Re: Guess I have to change to 5 lug if I want wheels
Wow. Great info. Thanks for this. Yes, my truck is a 12 bolt and a 67. I am going to do a bit of searching in my past pics/posts to see if I noted exact rear end info anywhere. That link you provided is much more affordable than the "kits" I see listed. I'll be able to get some pictures when I yank the rear axles to check them out. I previously cleaned the rear axle housing, gears inside, and added a new dif cover and gasket. Don't think I filled it with oil yet.

Oh, and to get wider tires on the rear, I assume with tubs, the narrower axle of the 67 is good? At least I think I read the 67 has a narrower axle?

Stepside or fleetside? Stepsides are space challenged for a big tire, and the wider axle works better IMO with available wheel offsets. The wider axle and a zero offset rim works great on a stepside.
On a fleetside there is significantly more space in the wheel well and the axle length is less important.

It’s a fleetside. So hopefully those wheels I linked will fit with a 10” wheels in the rear and 8.5 up front. 22” diameter on both.

Re: Guess I have to change to 5 lug if I want wheels
I have a 67 c10 with the 6 lug 12 bolt diff. I just bought a Yukon axle conversion kit from Summit Racing that has the axles, bearings, seals, brake drums, and lug bolts for $365 with free shipping. After trying to find all the parts from Rock Auto and several other places I decided to bite the bullet and just get it all in a kit. Glad I did.
