to new for car shows?

I was wondering how many other members with 73 to 87 trucks get turned around from entering car shows or cruse inns. saying your truck is to new. even when its obvous the truck isnt a every day driver. If you notice it has only been recent that parts where even available for the 73 to 87.

The only place I have that happen is at the Goodguys shows. They started off as a Rod Run, so their cut off was 1948 at one time. With the popularity of 60's muscle cars, and 67-72 trucks on the rise, they changed their dates to 72.

Don't take it personal. Our trucks aren't considered "old" enough yet.

I've shown my '86 Suburban at the Carlisle All-GM Nationals the last 2 years in a row with no problems. I haven't tried anything locally, but there's newer customs, etc. at a lot of the cruise-ins around here...

You shouldn't have a problem at an "open" show. Those are open to any year. The traditional breakdown goes like this-

Rod Run-1948 or older
Rod & Custom- 1966 or older
Street Machine- 1949 or newer
Open Run- Any year

Keep in mind, every show has different guide lines. There is a local Rod Run that allows any year by "invitation". They will invite just about anyone that has a cool car or truck. They do this to keep the late model crowd to minimium...

I have an example hot august nights. When i was there last august as a spectator. there was a couple not many 73 to 87 trucks there. About every couple hours they would anounce all cars or trucks newer then 1972 must move there cars . most just ingnored that request. Here they have a (weekly)cruise in during the summer at the pearson airpark. No cars newer then 1973 are aloud ( except corrvettes any year this exception bugs me considering most were stock and looked alike). Generally they will let me in but not without about 50 questions. Like is your engine all shinny? what year is your truck? when beaters older then 73 get in without questions.

Most car shows in this area are open shows which like N2trux stated means ANYTHING is allowed. I like this type of car show better but it is kinda sad when people will pull a 1980 station wagon in just so they dont have to walk in from the spectator parking lot. It would be different if the wagon had a BBC with a blower shoved through the hood. :p

A lot of the shows around here are for charity also and I have entered some of these just to help the charity out with no intentions of even being in consideration for a trophy. Although I have won a few. A friend of mine with a basically stock unrestored (and to be honest kinda ugly) 71 swb entered one of these shows once and won 2nd in his class (70-79 original truck)

No problems showing locally.
I just could not get out to shows this year. Maybe next year once I've done some more work.

Never ran into that. Always been the more the merrier. I have shown mild custom 92 Nissan low rider truck in 92 at local stuff. Brand new vipers were not uncommon
