More progress on latest K20 (pics)
I'm making more progress on my latest K20 frame off project. I trimmed in all of the pieces over last weekend. I then put all the pieces back on the 4x4 chassis. I should be painting the rest of it this Saturday if all goes well. It will be two tone green/white with Deltron basecoat/clearcoat. I painted the inside of the bed even though it most likely will get a bedliner.

Are you painting there in your shop? If so, could you give some details on how you are doing it. For instance, are you making a plastic sheet paint booth or what kind of paint gunare you using.
Thanks Oh, it is looking real good.

That Warn winch is from one of my trailers. Pic below shows the winch on my other trailer. It is an old Ramsey winch that I removed from a Fire Department Power Wagon.
I have a friend who works at a body shop so I am painting in their paint booth when I can get in (evenings/weekends). I'd love to have a booth. It even has heat to bake it on. I've painted in garages though. Just need to clean the garage well then clean it again...lol. Have a fan for exhaust and definitely wear a mask. You can sand a lot of mistakes out of clear if you have to. The paint booth just eliminates this step for me at least. I covered the restored chassis with plastic before I did the body swap. I will remove it obviously when the painting is done. Keeps the overspray off my detailed chassis. |

Looking great. I was going to paint my truck silver, but am starting to consider the olive green and white (original color).

Man that bed is beautiful! It'd be a shame to cover it with a bed liner! J/K
Nice project.

Thanks for the comments. This has been a long project since I was building another garage in the middle of it. This truck body was a joy to work on...no dents or rust anywhere. I'm spoiled now. I'm going to take my time putting it back together before i get to burnt out.
Pics tomorrow hopefully. I took a few while it was still baking in the booth also at 160 degrees. It took a 14 hour day to get it mostly done Saturday. Here was my basic steps: 1. Mask 2. Paint Chip Guard on lower panels 3. Seal entire truck 4. Bake 3. Paint Green basecoat 4. Bake 5. Mask for white band and white top 6. Paint white basecoat 7. Bake 8. Mask for clear 9. Paint clear 10 Bake 11 Open beer |
