What shocks if i'm lowering 6" in the rear
What shocks do I need if i'm doing a 4/6 drop? Seems like everything i'm seeing say 3-5" drop shocks. I"m assuming I need a relocation kit?

Re: What shocks if i'm lowering 6" in the rear
I think my short shocks came in a kit, been 4-5yrs. and I can't remember which company.. probably the cheapest. '71 GMC stepside, 4" springs, 1" block, shock relocate kit, short gas shocks, adj. track bar. Liked the look, didn't like the ride. Kinda "choppy" in the back. I think the shocks were too short & limited the travel.. found last week the driver's side was broken off & gone. Don't know how long I drove around like that. I measured the resting stud to stud length and found a Monroe Shock chart that shows the working travel length for all of their shocks. I picked the shock with the right range. My resting stud to stud measure was 12-1/2" & I think the best I could find was 10" to 16" of travel. Bought 'em from Oreilly, about $50 for the pair. Like the look & the ride much better.

Re: What shocks if i'm lowering 6" in the rear
ECE (when still in business) used a KYB shock for the rear 6” drop springs.
Part # 344055. I think I bought them cheap from Amazon. These are used with a rear shock relocator kit. I suggest anyone OTHER THAN CPP for rear shock relocators. Find a kit that uses shock studs not bolts for the lower shock mount.

Re: What shocks if i'm lowering 6" in the rear
Bell Tech shock 2208AA on the rear of my 1968 Chevy C10 shortbed fleetside as that is what they recommended. Be aware that these shocks do have a 1/2 inch eyelet for mounting so if you have a 5/8 rear lower shock stud then you will need to change it in order to mount these.
These shocks are pricey but they are supposed to be really good for performance and ride quality. |
