Easy way to replace shock mount brackets and U bolts for 1968 Chevy C10

I am wondering what the easy way of replacing the shock mounts and U bolts on the coil spring rear end of my 1968 Chevy C10 would be? Anybody have any tips as I have never worked with a trailing arm type of suspension before that has coils.

When I did my 67 last fall and winter I bought new u bolts and just cut the old ones out. I knew I was installing lowering springs so I got a shock relocation kit as well. Drilled the rivets on the upper mounts and air hammer knocked those loose.

I'm not sure about an easy way, but here is a link to what I did to the rear shock mounts and other stuff under my Burban. It may help you. Scroll down to post 511.

My u bolts and spring mounts were so rusted that i had to cut them out. The spring mounts were probably the hardest part.

Re: Easy way to replace shock mount brackets and U bolts for 1968 Chevy C10

I guess that I didnt ask my question correctly.

I already have my new brake lines installed and already have my rear end centered with the track bar tightened and my new coil springs installed.

Do i have to loosen all my brake lines connected to the rear end, remove the track bar and remove my coil springs in order to replace the rear shock mounts?

If I dont need to remove all those things then how do I prevent the rear end from moving around while I replace the shock mounts and U bolts?

Do I just place the jack stands underneath the trailing arms and replace one side and then the other?

Some steps to do this would be great.

No this is not rocket science, just do one side at a time removr the two nuts knock down shock bracket , i would cut on u bolt in half remove, install new bolts and brackets and then voila finished

I put jack stands under the trailing arms to hold the truck up and did like BigMac73 said. I didn't cut the old Ubolts though. The biggest problem you are likely to have is getting the old Ubolt to to come up out of the trailing arm. I recommend applying some penetrating oil to them several times starting a couple of days prior to the job.

Thanks guys. I already put some oil on them about two days ago and will do it again tomorrow. My parts havent came in yet so I can soak them more until they arrive.
