Looking for -6AN adapter for PS pump
So I'm doing a bunch of work on my '68 C10 and one is adding power steering in place of the stock manual setup. It's a 250 straight 6 and I have the pump and mounts that I purchase from the classifieds. I'm also adding disc/drum power brakes with a hydroboost assembly in place of the manual drum/drum setup. With this setup, the power steering lines run from the pump to the hydroboost then to the steering box then back to the pump. I figured I'd make my own lines using Earl's power steering hose and connectors which are very nice. The problem I've run into is, the stock power steering pump is 5/8-18 male flare fitting, and all the Earl's stuff is -6 AN. I've spent hours searching for an adapter to go from 5/8-18 male to -6 AN female, but have yet to find anything. I've also spent an hour on the phone with techs at Summit, and they couldn't come up with anything either. I tried calling Earl's several times and despite long waits (45+ minutes), nobody ever answers the phone there. I even tried calling the corporate number multiple times, and no luck. So I'm just wondering if maybe someone has a suggestion on how to solve this.

Re: Looking for -6AN adapter for PS pump
Since you are making your own hoses could you just make that hose with -6 at one end and 5/8-18 at the other?

Re: Looking for -6AN adapter for PS pump
Do you need a male or female thread for the hose end at PS pump?

Re: Looking for -6AN adapter for PS pump
A picture would help but I think an AN894 or NAS1564 would work. Try giving Genuine Aircraft Hardware a call at 805-239-3169. They should be able to get you what you need.

Re: Looking for -6AN adapter for PS pump
Basically, what I need is this, but with female threads on the 5/8 end.

Re: Looking for -6AN adapter for PS pump
The AN894 looks correct, but the sizes don't match. I can try them on Monday, but don't see a match on their site.

I think that you need the NAS1564 then. Let me find a picture of one.

The file was too big to upload. Looks like you might have found it on your own, though. It says they have more sizes available so it's worth a call. Hope it helps. |

Re: Looking for -6AN adapter for PS pump
Maybe change the flow control valve to get what you need? A quick search turned up this https://www.jegs.com/i/JEGS+Performa...yABEgK51_D_BwE

Re: Looking for -6AN adapter for PS pump
If you decide to go the flow restrictor route give Turn One a call, am sure they can get you what you need. Maybe even get an adapter. I had a custom PS pump built by them. Very good to work with. https://turnonesteering.com/

Re: Looking for -6AN adapter for PS pump
Probably should have use the same term I did in a previous post "flow control valve" or regulator. Anyway they know their stuff regarding steering components. Built me a type 2 pump for my ls swap that flows over 5 gpm at 1500+ psi. Hopefully will handle the ram assist steering and ported hydro-boost setup I am installing on my truck.

Re: Looking for -6AN adapter for PS pump
Still no luck. Tried calling all the suggested sources and many others. Probably spent another 3-4 hours on the phone this morning. Can't believe this isn't a common item. Probably going to have to try to return the hose and fittings and get some custom lines made.

Re: Looking for -6AN adapter for PS pump
Not likely going to be common because many aftermarket PS pumps have a female 5/8 port rather than a 5/8 male fitting. Probably fewer people retaining the stock/fitting pump but not the stock-style hoses. So I'm not sure the market justifies the existence, which is unfortunate in your case.

Re: Looking for -6AN adapter for PS pump
Remove the fitting that is on your current pump. Then put these fitting on. https://www.summitracing.com/parts/clp-cpfcv-k

Re: Looking for -6AN adapter for PS pump
If I could not find the correct regulator I would probably just get a new or reman PS pump from a newer gen truck. Same style pump was used through the 80's and it will have the female thread output. Adapters to the -6 seem readily available for those. Maybe post in the later model parts section for the regulator.

Re: Looking for -6AN adapter for PS pump
I suppose not too many people are using the old pump with hydroboost, etc. I'm just surprised that with just fittings available for pretty much any conceivable combination, nobody makes one for this. So, the latest is that I ordered a part from inline tube that looks like it will work with the old pump and has female threaded output. If that works, I can get a male/male adapter that will work, and problem solved. But I'd say chances are 50-50 it will work. Problem is I have to wait a week for it to arrive via USPS bc inline tube doesn't offer any kind of expedited shipping. At this point, I'll just be happy if it works. If not, it's custom hoses or a new pump with female output.
