shocks for 74 C20
Interested in any recommendations for shocks my 1974 C20. Stock height. Truck came with G50 heavy duty rear springs.
Rock Auto has shocks listed under economy, daily driver, and heavy duty. Was thinking I should probably go heavy duty? While I think my truck was used with a camper at some point (despite it not actually being a Custom Camper model), I don't plan on hauling anything that heavy, but will use it to haul rocks, lumber, etc, from time to time. AC Delco, KYB and Monroe seem to be my main choices. Thanks! |

Re: shocks for 74 C20
We got Monroe's some 20 years ago, to this date they are still going strong, no signs of leaking or lack of performance. 1973 GMC c2500.

Re: shocks for 74 C20
Try to stay with oil shocks do not go to heavy gas unless you use light duty gas because the tend to much more heavy duty and harsher reaction then oil filled shocks. If your 80-90% light duty go with med duty. make sure you keep eye on the locking nuts that they do not loosen off because these 73-91 are know to loosen up and rip shock frame mount off or wear shock side mount off the shock. If not checked with routine maintenance see if the nut backed off. And the heavy duty set up tend to do this more. If your not using most of the time loaded. Most of the time bounce a lot more but drive much nicer when load down. Really to to match you shock to your truck weight load 75%+ to get the best ride handling out of them. I think only two shock now days that sell oil filled shocks any more. Unless you get older shock stock, then once oil seal to dry goes then the shock going to be no good or rust rips the seal. Properly shelf storage on shocks is a big help for the seal not to hot/or damp for older shocks. shocks turned ever few months for the one's that do not sell. keep the seal wet.

Not finding any oil shocks online. Do you have a suggested brand?

Re: shocks for 74 C20
I know there was one that was a bit more expensive but you could rebuild them yourself and I can’t remember. This is 8 or 10 yr back now they might be from the Brighten UK or USA I was thinking about these at one time ( you just re seal put oil in them ). I believe they where adjustable bit so they could be used few different suspension set ups. I do not know the name of these.
This is one for sure. Eaton Detroit Springs Leaf & Coil And Oil Shocks www.eatondetroitspring.com EATON Detroit Spring, Inc. 1555 Michigan Avenue Detroit, MI 48216 Phone: 1 (313) 963-3839 Fax: 1 (313) 963-7047 Email: inquiries@eatonsprings.com

Re: shocks for 74 C20
Bilsteins on everything! I have them on both my 75’s and difference in ride quality is huge. They’re not cheap but they are very good quality. And they last.
